Greetings,

I have a beam type torque wrench but I’d like to upgrade it to a memory dial type. I’m looking at CDI but open to other options.

I see torque values on common gears ranging from as low as 5 in/lbs to about 35. The lowest values are when reusing the bearing which seems silly. If you’re going to rebuild something actually rebuild it.

The wrenches come in either 0-30 or 5-75 range. It seems with the 20-100% accuracy range that the 30 max one is better for this purpose. I know the GJ answer is buy both but let’s answer the question which one is most useful to buy first. Budget is about $150 so I think electronic is out.

Suggestions?

Precision Instruments would be my first call, we use them daily building Caterpillar diffs etc, think they all are within 2% accuracy scale. Bonus is they
Are all steel as some other makes have plastic, rubber handles which soon
Start breaking down with the oils and cleaning sprays that are involved in
Repair jobs. Just my 5cents.

I'll second the PI. I have a couple Snap on Torqometers which are the same thing. They have performed great and have stayed in spec for a few decades. Definitely get one with the follow up pointer (memory).
