I am starting my vault project. Walls are poured concrete. I am wanting to grind the walls for paint application.

I have 70 lnft of 10ft wall plus another 240sqft of floor. Looking to rent the hd hand grinder and vac. Will a single wheel last long enough to grind 1000sqft? Single row, double row, turbo wheel diff? Just buy the hd wheel for $70 - I think the brand was Sawwest or something- or buy another brand?

Check out my garage overhaul thread. I used the exact setup then your talking about... even the $70 blue wheel. I did about 250 sqft qand there's more than 3/4 of material left on the wheel. I would definetly recomend it. And buy a GOOD respirator, eye protection, and a good fan to ventalate the work space.

I am doing the walls and the floor. Wall space is over 700sqft. I keep looking at it thinking this is going to be brutal. The floor should feel like a piece of cake compared to the walls (250sqft).

I went by HD again and damn is that grinder going to be heavy holding up for several hours!

Thanks for the info! Atleast I know one wheel will do the whole project. The grinder with that wheel pretty quick @ removing material. There are several areas I will need to level out about 1/4 of thickness difference. Come on up to GA and I will buy all the beer and pizza you can stand while you show me how to use this thing.

I am also worried about the form ties that are broke off flush with the wall. I hope they don't destroy the balde.

Hey Guys,
Just recently I used the HF 4-1/2" diamond turbo cup grinding wheel with my angle grinder to prep about 200 square feet of garage floor for epoxy coating. It worked fine and there was lots of wheel left. There is a definite learning curve with the wheel. After I got used to what this wheel could do, I was using the grinder with one hand.

If you are going to do a wall I would think this would be the way to go (unless you're Popeye).

Just make sure you match the wheels' rated speeds to your grinder: The 4-1/2" wheel is rated to 13,000 rpm. The 7" wheel is only rated to 7,400 rpm.

Whichever way you go, best of luck. And let us know how things turn out.
