I had been looking for a regulator / water separator / oil separator for my compressor, so I was on eBay and found this. It looked pretty grungy but I took a chance on it. $17.49 bid, $18.00 to ship it and a few hours to disassemble clean and reassemble.

The condition I saw it in and received it in.

I don't know what that **** is in the top, must be thread sealer.

After I finished the cleaning

Another

That inlet is 3/4" pipe thread

The whole thing

Whhhhhhhat. Did you wire wheel the satin portions, or just scrubbed it clean?

I used lacquer thinner on it and a soft towel but the previous owner chucked it a vise and that left some marks. That satin finish is chromed and it's also pitted and flaking off in places.

Most of the grime came off easily but the top was the worst.

That thing is freaking sweet. Great job cleaning it up.

I love overkill industrial items at home. What do you plan on hooking it to?

Thanks Guys I had a lot of fun bring this back, I realize the teflon tape will turn after time especially if it gets oil on it, it's instant color change. I'll see if it starts to look bad I can always redo it.

After I got it back together I bushed down the 3/4" inlet to accept a 1/4" fitting. I hooked up the air hose to check for leaks and to see that everything worked. I had a small leak in the drain on the bottom. It turned out that the rubber gasket took shape to the seat after being closed for so long.

I contacted Binks which is now Illinois Tool Works. I got an email from their tech support with a place to purchase the parts needed to fix the leak. Along with the stem I ordered a filter.

To answer your question ZKLING I have a 1948 Curtis compressor that I will plumb it into. I've got a few projects before I start to redo the compressor so it might take a little while.

Drain Stem and seal

After looking on the web for information on this filter I found the specs. the previous owner changed out a regulator and gauge but this system is set up for 4 paint guns and will flow 100CFM.

People are lazy- if the seller would have cleaned it up as good as you did, just imagine how much he COULD'VE gotten for it.

Props to you, that is an amazing piece.

Thanks and how right you are, I love the statement people make, "I left it just like I got it so you can clean it the way you want to". They want you to think that if they clean it, it might not be the correct way it should be done or you might want it cleaned a certain way.

Can you post a link for the Binks Tech Support office that sent you the 1971
parts sheet?

Sure thing Attached is the parts list for the 86-949 Regulator.

Parts are available from
Pittsburg Spray Equipment. Phone number is 888 714-1410

The Binks tech site is a form you fill out then someone will email you back. It wasn't long before I got 2 emails back from Binks
