Diamond Plate for garage floor!!!

Back home I am using a building with a concrete floor as a garage ( the building was supposed to be a shop). Normally I should polish the concrete and use one of the commercial floor colours. The problem is: I might need to change the use of the building again so all the work and expenses should be for nothing.
As an alternative :headscrat I am considering using large sheets of diamond plate to cover the floor, that will be easy to take out again and reuse elsewhere,
Does anyone have experience using diamond plate??
Positive or negative comments are welcome.

I think the sound of walking on it would get annoying if you're just laying loose sheets on the concrete.

Diamond Life has a diamond plate tile

http://diamondlifegear.com/interlocking-metal-floor-tile.htm

Its been a LONG time since I have worked with them, but they are great people.

Keep in mind this stuff has a plastic (polymer) base w/ thin aluminum diamond plate. I haven't used it -- but it may not provide the durability of a true diamond plate material. On the flip side it should be cheaper and more portable for reuse. Of course, at the point, I'd probably skip the aluminum layer anyhow and just go all plastic w/ diamond plate texture which is probably cheaper.

Negative ! Would probably curl up in time after driving over it .

I did sell it years ago... Never had that happen. It's been on the market several years now, but since I do not work with it that is about as much as I know. Its worth looking into at least.

They do also offer (or they used to) a self stick version.

I do tend to agree with the sentiment that has been stated... Just get the look of diamondplate from a plastic tile.

Sorry , meant aluminum diamond plate (sheets). BTW they are about $500.00 a sheet.

Just had friend tell me this week he's doing this to his garage (but it's one-car only). He ran across clearance rolls of diamond plate vinyl at Home Depot. Plans to install when weather warms up.

There was similar thread while back on GJ where he did this same thing and used double-side tape to "glue" down the seams.

Curious to see how these turn out.

Are you talking about aluminum or steel?

No way would I use aluminum. It's soft and extremely slippery when wet.

I've worked in several buildings that had steel diamond plate on the floor and it held up very well but was difficult to roll anything across and you really didn't want to lay in the floor.

No way. Slippery. Light reflection would probably bug me. Drop a washer on the floor an it's gone forever! It would scratch. It's expensive. As others have said, I would go with a plastic product. Cheaper, easier to move, durable….

Hi
Real aluminum tread plate has some positives and negatives

The Positive > looks cool, super durable, and it shiney ;)

The negative -> Very expensive, easily tarnishes, easily dents , easily scratches and if polished will stand out.

We actually manufacture a Real Diamond Plate topped surface that is quite popular with motorcycle and car show crowd, but I would not recommend the for a full size home garage for the reasons above

Thank you all for your reactions.

My ideal should be the 3/16 aluminium but as I need some 550 sq.Feet steel should be more affordable I have to check with the local suppliers for pricing.

Justin and Jorgen

Thank you for the advice and the coupon code. I wish I was nearer but the garage is some 8000 miles away ( Crete Greece ).

Would **** to kneel on...

Can you imagine explaining how you got "rug burn" on your knees? :scared:You know the kind of rug burn you got for trying to make Sally smile back in the day. Nasty scars to remember her by anyway.

We have it at my work. It gets beat day in an out. There are some areas worn smooth. It is all welded together and sort of grouted in on the edges.

Do you have a way to maneuver a full sheet of diamond plate??
