Yes, quite often and fully intentional.
MBs from the eighties have galvanized grade 8 M8 hexhead screws for attaching various external parts to the cylinder heads, which are aluminium. Over time the bolts corrode and get stuck, real hard. So hard that a hex bit just rounds the hex. Hammering in a TORX bit in the rounded off hex hole has saved the situation for me several times .
And even though many of these cars are junkyard bound within a few years, they are rusting really bad,I always clean the thread in the head and put a dab of grease on the new bolt.

Yep use a t25 security tors screwdriver for a 5/64th security bolt at work. Have the special bit but I wanted a driver with handle and no bit. Wanted wera and they don't make it so t25 it was. Works great and never strips.

I use Torx bits as screw extractors quite regularly (it pisses with rain and they use a lot of salt on the roads in the UK) they work really well on rounded out hex heads if you hammer them in with a soft faced hammer. I use a cheapo Halfords (probably like sears) set that they will warranty without question.

We have a particular problem with spark plugs shearing off in the cast Iron cyl head of some Brit Fords and a Torx bit works great at getting the broken shell of the plug out.

What brand in-hex sockets do you use? I had that same problem with those same bolts, until I switched to Stahlwille, then I never rounded one again.

I did halfway on purpose just the other day. I noticed it was hex, grabbed the wrong set of wrenches (the swiss army type) and just said f-it, it was just a set screw T25/4mm something small like that. Too lazy to walk 4 steps, if it had stripped i would have deserved it.
