The ratchet has problems. Can I take it apart and clean it? It seems to freewheel and not ratchet.

Did the guy mark his tools with yellow paint? Nice set of sk....ratchet may just have dried grease inside the ratchet. Have you tried a little spray lube to loosen it up?

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night with that yellow paint on my tools I'm no SK expert by any means, but that looks a HELL of a lot like Facom guts in that thing. I can't swear SK never used a selector wheel like that, but Facom sure does:

Did Facom make SK ratchets at one time? I have no idea

After a quick search it appears Facom owned SK at one point. That rat is DEFINITELY from that era.

You did fine. Use some simple Green soaked paper towel and that will take the paint off and may work for the paint on the plastic box as well.

I don't think the 94547 set ever came with that style ratchet.

The bar selector round head 7.5" is on the vast majority of them, even if I'm wrong.

Looks like you're missing a good ratchet and two sockets. Those can be replaced for well under the difference between what you paid and what the set is new.

I usually throw sockets and stuff in a container with spent brake fluid to get paint off.

Nice score on the tools so a you **** is in order

Looks like you did good. I wouldn't worry too much about the paint, but that's just me. I do like the ratchet, I've never seen an SK in that style.

Took the ratchet apart and yes it was dried and crappy inside. Cleaned it out and reassembled to test and presto all good. I will clean it again and lube. The wire on the selector looks kind of brittle so it may not last many more years. I was so busy with work and in and out so fast I didn't even notice the missing two sockets.
They have a 1/2 inch set that are the same case style and same condition,I may go back and get them. The 1/2 set has the standard ratchet,this 3/8 is a little funky but I will keep it with the set.

FYI: I have the Proto branded versions of those style rats and in my experience they prefer the "Red Lube of Love" to Super Lube.

Yup, soak everything for a few days and you're good to go. I'd probably just try brake cleaner on the ratchet, blow dry and lube it up before I took it apart. That will fix a lot of issues. If that don't work, take it apart and possibly order a kit for it.

There's not a lot of fat in there to turn much of a profit on that kit, but if you bought it to use then you got a good deal. That set should last a long time.

I have the same ratchet, you need to put loctite on that allen screw. If it gets too loose or too tight, the ratchet wont work. If I remember correctly, you are supposed to bottom out the screw, then back it off a quarter turn.

Thanks for the info guys. Didn't buy for a flip. Maybe one of the kids will get this set down the road. Is $65 a good price on the 1/2 inch set? I never use 1/2 inch but it is a match to this set.

To me $65 is about top dollar. If your buying to use it doesn't seem to bad to me.

Thanks conductor I will pass on the 1/2 inch set. I have been spending to much on **** I don't need anyway. The yellow paint is a pain in my *** right now. It's coming off slowly.

Thanks whelenfan I will pm you after I get it all back together I think I'm missing 3. The case is in my wife's dishwasher right now. Don't tell her !

I think you did good as well. For sockets with paint, I put on an old leather work glove, grab a 6" sq green scothbrite for dishes, soak them in WD40, and put the socket on my impact with the adapter thing...run it for a few seconds...NICE AND SHINY AND OILED UP!

Did this with what seemed like a million sockets when I came aboard GJ.

Good find if the ratchet can be up to operating speed as you seem to have done.

As for the yellow spray bomb, I use lacquer thinner. Buy at at any home supply store. It's fine for chrome tools just wipe it until clean and then dry off with cloth. Use it gently on the blow moulded case on the paint until paint is removed.

No intense rubbing or fuss. That paint will be off in minutes. Then clean case with hot water and Dawn afterwards and let dry when done. BTDT x 100.
