Did I get a good deal on this vice?

I just won this for $48 with shipping. Didnt really mean to, is it a good deal?

it's a light duty vise so you didn't steal it. how much is shipping? can you post any pictures because hard to see condition from the little thumb on Ebay? also when Ebay ad expires nobody reading this thread later will have any idea what we are talking about. always post pictures on Craigs or Ebay listings for future readers if you are able.

If the vise is really in the condition that was advertised, and doesn't have any hidden problems, then you should be ok. It isn't suckworthy, but even with shipping, you didn't get taken.

With a little (subjective) elbow grease, it should make a nice beauty queen. Or just clean it up and it will be a good med - light duty vise for your bench. It wasn't made to be beaten like an anvil, but it's a good Columbian made vise that still has decades of service left in it if taken care of. It has a nice 50's style to it that a lot of people are looking for these days.

Don't worry about it, just enjoy it.

Yeah I didnt think $12 for shipping was too bad. I didnt have a vice yet and I bid on this at the minimum thinking I would get outbid. At least it was still cheaper than what the chinese ones go for in store. Now I have to decide if I want to refinish it or keep it original and aged.

that is a good vise and for $47 you did ok. a little simple green on a rag to clean it up and some new grease on the screw and it's ready to mount unless you want to do a full restoration.

i'd be curious how your seller is shipping this for $12 because i'm not sure it will fit in a medium USPS shipping flat rate box. it might and still would like to see you unpack it.

now that you have the one for the medium to small stuff keep your eyes open for the 50 pound plus one for the other end of the bench.

Still trying to decide if I came across it at a local garage sale or flea market if I'd go $47.

Time is money, more to some than others. Since I used to enjoy the hunt, I spent many happy hours perusing classifieds and craigslist, making calls, driving across town, digging through rusty, greasy piles of junk to occasionally find a diamond. If you enjoy looking, then no, I wouldn't have paid $47. I know I'd eventually find a better vise for less. If you want one now and have other priorities, then good on yer.

Had a friend who would wait till he had to have a tool to solve an emergency. He'd go to the nearest store and pay retail, fix the problem and then in summer, go play golf or in winter go skiiing. Golf/skiing to him was where the fun was. Tools were just a means to keep the house from falling down, keep the wife from bugging him about how much time he spent on the golf course/ski hill.

You solve the equation by supplying the knowns. The unknown (vise value) then be shown.
