Did I mess up with CFL photo lights?

I purchased two of these 400-Watt equivalent (105 actual) giant 5500k CFLs: CLF photo lights

I have a 20x21 with 11' ceilings, and will be installing them into the two Edison fixtures in the garage.

For a little more money, would I be happier with a pair of the FEIT LED shoplights from Costco?

Or buying 8 100-watt equivalent CFLs and installing them with a 4-way socket adapter?

These are what I bought: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FRCUHY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

"Kim Outlet" appears to be out of stock right now, but they were $22 a pair shipped when I bought them. I have a 48'x64' barn with 14' ceilings and I love them. I have it divided down the middle and currently have 15 lights in my finished half(32x48) and it's like daylight in there.

As long as those bulbs perform as well as mine have I think you'll be very happy.

You're fine. I have 6 of them in my 3-car garage and have only had one die in the last 2+ years. Simple, tons of light, and no need for extra light fixtures.

A polished reflector shade makes a huge difference on those type of bulbs.
Measured light to the work area was dramatic.

I made the shades out of cheap polished stainless mixing bowls. (Pic to follow)

Garage heated? Mine's not. So while I use shop lights, I still find the need for strategically placed incandescents while the florescents are warming up

Those were the ones I was originally going to buy... but I decided I wanted to go with 5500k instead of 6500k. They should arrive today, so we'll see how they go!

Yes, it is now finally heated as of this last weekend! :rocker:

However, I'll probably leave the thermostat at around 40 degrees unless I'm going to be out there working. We'll see how bad the power bill hit is first.

I heat it when I'm out there, but that's it. So far the coldest it's actual been in the shop this winter has been 38º, and that's been after no heat for several days and below zero temps at night.

They take a couple minutes to warm up to full brightness, but that gives me time to turn the heat & radio on.
