These guys are either too expensive for me or too rare in my area, so I jumped when I saw this one. I won't tell you what I paid but I am curious to see what you guys consider a fair price for it. I hope this thread doesn't end up making me feel bad haha. If you want to see more pictures just ask and i'll snap a few.

I've kept an eye on a few similar presses for $150 - $200 in my area. It looks pretty clean, and complete. Nice drill press.

Good deal, but if you pulled that kind of a lowball on me, I'd just shut the door. Lucky for you the negotiation continued :D

I'd say you did quite well, though obviously my opinion isn't really worth a jot, being on a different continent and all. :D End of the day, if you're happy with the price you paid, and you were comfortable with the people you dealt with, that's the main thing. Money/cost isn't everything.

You didn't steal it but you certainly did not overpay. Around here, similar units run around 75 - 125 bucks.

That said, that's a fine looking drill press and will look even better after a thorough cleaning.

As long as it spins true with little/no play and the quill works, sure----it's a deal! That's all it has to do.

Yeah I figured that $90 was fair but not exactly great. Yeah originally I lowballed because they had the worlds worst picture on CL so I wanted to see what kind of wiggle room I had. I'm happy with it, its seems to be true/quite maybe i'll link to a video so I can get some opinions. Its the first i've ever owned and I figure why spend $100 on something covered in plastic thats 1/4 the size

You are the only person who can say you paid too much for it. If you use it you might of gotten the best deal in the world, But if you never use it, you just threw money away.

No crank lift for the table, no tilt and no rotating table, 3 speeds — I'd say you paid about right. And that is if it is in good condition.

Yeah I realized how much it ***** not having a crank after about the third time using it, oh well i'll get by. I didn't even think about the tilt to the table, that *****. I can't say I have yet had a need for it yet, but maybe now that I actually have a press that will change. It seems to be in good condition, I may read up on it and tear it down just to get it cleaned up and painted but that won't be for a while.

I would have given $100 as it sits. Up to $200 if it had the period correct Delta motor. You did just fine on price.

Ninety dollars for that in Connecticut? Doesn't a gallon of gas and a newspaper cost almost that much in Connecticut these days? And that's only because the cost of gasoline is down lately.

At 90 dollars, that would have lasted maybe 30 minutes on Craigslist in Rhode Island.

I much prefer the simplicity of no crank on the table. But lower speeds would be very useful. The rotate and tilt of those tables are usually controlled through a nut and a 90 degree stop pin located underneath the table. You can kind of see the end of the pin in your last picture.

No lowball there. He just made an offer based on the value he was willing to pay.

Around here he paid within 20% of the going price.

Warning: I don't see a strain relief bushing where the wiring goes into the motor. Vibration will abrade the outer insulation and once the conductor hits the motor case the entire DP could become "hot" and you could be the path to ground unless the the unit is properly grounded. (ex: 3 wire plug and GFI circuit).

I would tend to that pronto!!

I was going to say $125-150 on CL, but I wouldn't have been surprised to see a price tag of $200 depending where you're located.

If I didn't have one already and was looking, I would have jumped on that for $90. As far as the no crank for the table goes, usually some pieces of 3/4" plywood sitting on the table will bridge that gap and not need to have the table raised/lowered.

Spend a few days this Winter cleaning it up, use a roloc disc on the column/table and rub it down with something to keep the shine on it (oil/wax/whatever), repaint the rest with some Rustoleum hammered paint and that thing will look brand new. Once that is done, you'll feel better about your purchase although you shouldn't feel bad about it right now.

It amazes me how thin-skinned some of you are re: price. How is it a 'lowball'? Because he didn't offer the seller his asking price? If a seller assigns a price to it on CL, all potential buyers are supposed to be careful not to offend him? That's a crock of sh/t.

I bought a sheet metal shear for 25% of the original asking price. It was a reasonable deal but not a steal. The original price was just way too high. Only reason I responded to the ad was b/c 1) they're not all that common and 2) figured whoever priced it didn't know the real value.

Good Buy, I have been looking for something like this also, found one, somewhat close by me, a Delta DP220 but he is asking $200, I'll see if he is willing to negotiate a little. (I started a thread in the wrong forum above, about it)

I don't mind someone low balling me, I'll do it when I'm buying.... as long as the negotiation continues.

I once lowballed a guy..... he got silent, for a moment, then asked me, "do you think I was born last night?". I replied, "No, but I sure didn't want to miss you if you were". We both laughed, made the deal then had a beer.

Perfect reply! I always try to have some fun when haggling. If it isn't fun why bother? I've got more stuff than I need already.....

By the way, to the OP, you couldn't get that press around here for $90, it seems like a fine deal to me, but you're the only one who needs to be happy with it.
