If he likes old tools, how can you go wrong for 10 bucks? Most jigsaw blades are standard so any hardware store should have blades for it. Just bring the saw with you and have them find you the right blades.

You should be able to find blades at any hardware store. That saw was made for Montgomery Wards and I'm sure someone else will chime in as to whether you need to buy t-shank or u-shank blades. You could always leave it to your husband to buy the blades depending on what he wants to cut with it. For $10 I think you did very well and I'm sure he will appreciate the gift.

$10 bucks is exactly right. Perfect. I'll bet it works as good as this one does:

Shouldn't be any issue finding blades for it at the local hardware store.

$10 is fine if you bought it as a curiosity or stocking stuffer, but it was a poor choice as a usable tool. Modern jigsaws are orbital action and cut much more efficiently than those old dinosaurs. I still have the first power tool I ever owned, a Craftsman jigsaw (called them Sabre saws back then) that I bought in 1968, but only keep it for nostalgia, and never use it for anything. I use my Bosch for actual work.

When I worked at Sears almost 5 years ago, they did not carry the u shank style blades and we did not have anything available for older saws like this. I'm not sure how many other stores are the same as I have not looked for them myself, but i do know they are readily available online since that is where I would direct customers.

He likes old socket sets in the metal boxes. So I just figured a power tool in a box must be even better. He doesn't use any of the older stuff. Its just pretty to him I guess. Like old horse stuff is to me. Or old cars/trucks.

there are three common sabre saw (jigsaw if you insist) blade sizes. My Penncraft of the same vintage as yours uses the larger size that is very hard to find today. Good luck - last time I tried to find blades for it, no dice. Zoro maybe?

Its not the only gift. He opened the big one yesterday. A new game called Just Cause 4. I got the gold pack so he could have it early. I also gave him my new Ryobi impact because he loved it soo much. The saw is just so he has something to open Christmas morning that is a surprise.

I called it a jigsaw because that's what it says on the case. I've heard of sabre saw but I thought that was a brand in itself. I'm not too tool literate.
