If you are the second owner (or later) owner of a Mac tool box, they will not honor warranty claims.

They made it very clear to me that they will honor their warranty only to the original owner.

Thant ***** and it kind of hurts resale value of a Mac box in my opinion.

that is probably in many warranties, but I doubt that many would enforce it. After all I can always say that it is my grandfathers and I'm just bringing it here to get exchanged.

Where did you hear/see this?

I run a shop that has a Matco truck not a Mac truck, so I had to call corporate to get handles for my 3 bay Mac box that is in my home shop.

I have been on the phone three times in the last two days with Mac corporate.

The handles are slip on pieces of plastic and the outer layer of the plastic (the shiney part) is peeling and looks crappy. Mac knows this is a serious problem with the boxes made with these handles.

When I called the first question they asked was whether I was the original purchaser of the box. I told them that I am not. The tech I spoke to was very nice but after speaking to his supervisor he made it crystal clear that the handles would not be covered under warranty.

They offered to sell me the handles at the usual price (about $300) for the 19 pieces I need.

At this point, I am going to see if I can strip the outer layer of plastic off and then have my paint and body guy paint the handles.

Meanwhile, we won't be buying Mac stuff, new or used, at our shop anytime soon.

Yet another reason why Mac Tools blows the big one.
They might as well throw in the towel.
I seriously don't know how the hell my Mac dealer has stayed in business as long as he has.

I wonder this too. I like many MAC tools...but less and less each year that goes by. Their older wrenches are in fact the nicest i have ever used. Most of their new tools leave me cold. I dont know who would spend $400 for set of wrenches that have KNUCKLE SAVER stamped across them. We hear so many bad story's about their service on this sight as well.

When I first started building my "professional, tool truck-branded" wrench lineup, I started with a few Knuckle Saver's and the majority, a mix of Flank Drive's & Flank Drive +'s. Over the years of pretty extensive, moderate use (equally between Mac & Snap On as far as popular use sizing goes), my Knuckle Savers' flats (opened end) are wearing WAY MORE QUICKLY than any of the little teeth/flanks compared to my Flank Drive +'s.

Depending on torque load, the sides of the open end's face on the Knucke Saver's mushroom out way to easily. It's like their steel batch is rediculously soft. I also don't like the sharp "squared" feeling on their wrench shafts. Curved/rounded feels much better over stringentperiods of use, IMO.

Not to piss you off but, I have a Matco box and found a blemish in the paint. I spoke to my Matco rep and after a couple visits from some head Matco personnel they offered to give me a brand new side cabinet($3500) if I would live with the defect! Oh yea and I bought it used 6 years ago! Now thats a company that knows how to treat their customers!!!!!

All the truck brands have that in their warranty, it really depends on the person you talk to. My snap on dealer sees me once every couple of weeks at best, and is really lenient with stuff he knows I didn't buy. He is a tool guy though, not just some hard up a$$clown. He knows I own speeders and stuff that are from the 30-40s and obviously I dont buy much new. I have talked to him about warrantying some stuff before and he even said "I will warranty it for you, I at least know your face because you buy stuff. I have a lot of people come on here with buckets of broken tools and have never seen them before and they want to empty my truck out. I don't warranty it for them simply because than people like you and the shops I go to have nothing to take"

Your handles are a different situation, and as long as the box is not 20 years old and beat up, I think they should warranty it. Even if it changed hands 20 times but was only 6 months old, if its a common issue, it should be warranty.

One of my customers had a rust issue with their 4225r. He is the second owner and only paid 500.00 for the box off Craigslist...My DM gave him a brand new hutch to live with the problem.. not a bad deal

+1

All the tool truck brands say this.

Many people here would have lied in the OP's situation and said they were the original owner.

I'm not saying the OP should or should not have, but if he had said he was the original owner, he very well might have new handles right now.

I thought it was that way with anything used, I never in my life new you could even think about getting a warrenty on a used or second hand item until I joined this forum. I was allways under the impression that warrenties were a thing for buying new.

Its all about how you get treated when you have a problem regardless of fine print. If Snapon or Craftsman regularly started to decline warranty on items purchased used, resale value would take a HUGE hit, and that would turn right around and hit the sales of new tools. Companies know this, and I figure must find it cheaper to warranty everything than to lose sales on new tools.

OTOH I've had a good company turn down a warranty I was 100% legally entitled to, the item was "new old stock" I bought from a current authorized retailer that was clearing stuff out of their warehouse, but the company hadn't made that type of equipment in 5 years or so, and had no easy way internally to process anything or spare parts to send me. End result is that I am a bit more flexible in extracting warranty service. I won't lie, but instead of admitting I bought it used I might answer that I haven't been able to find the receipt yet (learned that from Bill Clinton).

I agree we just got the new mac tools flyer they sell absolute **** and now they are pushing this expert tool line cheap as hell.

I feel bad for anyone who invests hard earned money on their overpriced garbage and I have no idea how any Mac Dealer can make a living their tools

not true with Snap On they have warrantied slides on boxes Ive bought used np.

They probably just didn't question you on it. I've warrantied tools that I bought used, but the company didn't have to warranty them. There are many examples of people getting used tools warrantied, but that doesn't mean the company has to do it.

This is taken from Snap-On's website:

Emphasis added by me.
Snap-on warrants to Customers who purchase Product from authorized Snap-on distribution channels for use in their profession that Snap-on® brand Products and Blue-Point® brand Products will be free from defects in workmanship and materials for a duration described in each Product's warranty code.

When I called Snap-On to get new slides for my Snap-On top box,The ***** on the phone said I HAD to have the original receipt form over 20yrs ago WTF:wtf:

This box was bought new by my Father and this is what I told her she said no receipt no warranty then proceeded to quote me the retail price of over $400 for all the slides.
