Just picked up my first die grinder to upgrade from the Dremel I've been using the past 10-15 years. Got a Fein GSZ 8-280 P and its great.

I wanted to pick up some cutting wheels and a mandrel. Anyone recommend who makes a nice quality mandrel? I wasn't seeing many brands I recognized when it came to accessories.

I already bought a few sets of Pferd stone grinding wheels and they seem great.

I know some do it but the die grinder shouldn't be used with cut off discs. For that get a cutoff tool. Die grinders should be used with burrs or sanding drums.

Anyway, that's what I was taught.

Good to know. Thanks.

Any recommendation on sourcing sanding drums and who makes good ones?

I will say this - buy quality cut off wheels and grinding stones. Not only do they last longer, but they're more durable. About 6 years ago my buddy and I were installing new leaf springs on his truck. He took the easy way out and decides to cut the u bolts. He had cheapo HF cutting discs and after a few cuts, the disc blew apart sending fragments into his arm, hand, neck and face. Thank god he had glasses on. That has always stuck in my mind. Now I make sure to buy industrial grade stuff and always wear a full face shield when cutting. Also be conciencious of where your face is in relation to the path of shavings and debris. The guards don't stop everything.

I agree. I always buy high quality for my angle grinder. I'm just not familiar with who produces accessories for die grinders.

I've been using HF grinding disk holders and mandrels. Use them every day and they've outlasted all my HF grinders. My SGS carbide burr has held up well and wasn't too expensive... def. get a burr.

Edit: actually I may have bent a mandrel. Either that or the grinder, not sure.
