Die grinder shank extension (1/4)?

Back a while ago i had a little 4" die grinder extension that allowed the use of standard short shank burrs for porting heads and manifolds. Something like this:

Ive searched high and low here in Australia and everyone just shrugs and says NFI or suggests Dremel flexishaft type things.

Found an old post here where someone posted about using one of these extensions:

Has grub screws for tensioning:

Seems dicey, but might be an option if nothing else is available.

Anyone have a source for a better extension?

Better off getting burrs with longer shafts. Runout at die grinder speeds is a recipe for disaster.

I would look for a 1/4" router collet extension.

At the speed of a die grinder I would not want anything off balance and/or held by set screws.

An extended die grinder can work better then long shank burrs, which can be dangerous enough.

Definitely don't use those set screw based things...they barely work in drills, I can't imagine using one at 20,000rpm

When I think of an extension in a die grinder, I can only picture it wrapped in intestines after bending and eviscerating the user. There is a lot of energy in something spinning at 20k rpm and stick-out should always be kept to a minimum.

LOL had one that broke at 20K rpm... I immediately check for bleeding all over my body even though nothing feels hurting...

I don't think OP's idea is good... probably the best you can do is a extended die grinder... for long reach... a flex shaft... hope you don't run that at 20K rpms...

Those carbide are really brittle, breaks if you used it at the wrong angle or wobble very easily...

A flex shaft Fordom type setup will give your the best access & control. Foot pedal speed control or bench speed control. Hand pieces can take 1/4" burrs or smaller handpiece will take 1/8" & everything in between. I have a high end 'Mastercarver' 1/2hp. But the Fordom knock offs for around $100 on EBay are not bad at all. I would not want to use some of the extensions posted in this thread :eek: ....not one bit. Some have posted 1/4" HEX extensions & recommend them for 30K RPM!! Please don't do that. I think 2" is the maximum length for accessories my corded Milwaukee 0-30K die grinder is rated for.
