Diesel on Asphalt

Well a simple project turned into a big mess.

I changed the fuel filter on my truck. I've done this tons of times and never had a spill before so I figured I'd be fine doing in in the driveway.

I pulled the filter off and was cleaning the housing in the garage, when I noticed a ft wide puddle of diesel under the truck on the driveway. It was dripping out of the top plate for the housing. I put some paper towels and a can to catch it.

Best I can figure, I had just filled my fuel tanks (main tank and one in the bed) and that created enough pressure to push fuel through the pump and all the way to the filter housing. Never has done that before.

I got the filter replaced and moved the truck out of the driveway. Soaked up what I could and then scrubbed down the spot with dish soap and water.

I was just about done and I back into the can full of diesel I had set "out of the way" and knock it over.

Scrubbed that spot too, rinsed/scrubbed with 15-20 gals of hot water.

I don't know how it's going to fair, seemed to clean up ok.

Any tips?

Certainly does. When I was in the heavy/highway construction industry, the guys running the asphalt laydown machines would spray down the screed with a pump up sprayer containing diesel, and the truck drivers used it to dissolve cutback spatter from their truck fenders.

Hopefully you got it up soon enough it didn't have time to soak in and soften your driveway though.

I think the dish soap worked.

BTW I posted up for info, not for jokes. It was funny at first, but guys I am looking for info on keeping a $5000 driveway looking ok. I own 2 diesels, so it's bound to happen again if I park them in the driveway.
