Difference between Big Maxx MHU50 and MHU45

I swear I saw something in this forum that compared the two but couldn't find it now if my life depended on it

What is the difference between the two other than a supposed 5k BTU? I went to lowes planning on picking up a MHU45 for $377 and a thermostat for $25. They had a bunch of MHU80's and MHU45's but I noticed a couple MHU50's that included the thermostat for $399. So I bought it instead of the 45.

Is there any difference? Mr. Heater does not list the 50 on their site. I had to download the manual from Northern Tool. Is it the same unit in different packaging?

I would have liked to get a seprated combustion Modine Hot Dawg (HDS ?) but they don't make them easy to buy.

50K Btu model is just model changeover . . . .they are phasing out the 45K Btu likely as marketing ploy to say they sell 50K Btu.

If you wanted Separated Combustion, then you could have bought Reznor "SC" model for separate combustion. . but those are much more money, plus you have twice the flue costs.

Yes. Physical size wise I believe they are the same but have revision changes. Different gas valve, board design, external thermostat connection etc..

I have the 45k but unit have had it for about 3 yrs now works great keeps my 2 car nice and warm on cold days. For the money u can't beat it.

I too have had my 45k for 3 years and had to replace the board and inducer motor, so it will be interesting to see how the new ones do once they are out there in the garages and shops to see what their shortcomings may be, hopefully Mr Heater took care of the issues that plague the older 45k models. After the items I replaced on mine, it has worked perfectly since and that was done right after I installed and started using it.
