Difference between Coats 2020 and 4040a tire changers????

Hi all,

Have the opportunity to purchase a Coats 4040a tire machine.

I'm only familiar with the coats superstar 2020.

My question is, How different is the 4040a?

The seller is not knowledgble about it, it was her husbands machine.

In for the knowledge. I just picked up a 4040 SA. Apparently not good for aluminum rims.

Why not good for the aluminum wheels?

Incidentally, does your model have the bead blaster feature?

Both the person I bought it from [Canadian Tire mechanic] and my step-son [who worked for several years as a tire monkey at a large tire chain], said that the mechanism could catch when de-beading, and the arm that removes the tire doesn't have a plastic coating to prevent marring the rims.

I do believe it has the bead blast feature. I tried to remove a tire yesterday and it didn't have enough oomph. But my compressor is old and is limited to 80 psi and probably 4 cfm...I hope when I get my bigger compressor hooked up that it works.

The 40-40 is about 10-20 years newer. Otherwise they work just about the same. The lower bead breaker on both of those has to be shimmed or pried up while breaking the bead on aluminum wheels or it could crack them. The hold down is the same and requires a center hole for them to work. The 40-40a has the air bead inflater, and I don't remember any 40-40 that didn't have one.

What is the difference between the 4040sa and 4050a?

Are they completely pneumatic or a combo of electric and pneumatic?

I seem to be leaning toward a completely pneumatic one, just want the latest used model I can find.

The one I have is completely pneumatic. I cant comment on the other.
