I'm wondering if the gearing is different between the two. The part numbers end in the gear ratio? Maybe 10:1 and 30:1

Good question. You would think something would be part of the specs.

I'm seeing a poorly designed web page using the same photo to represent 2 different winches. The handles are the same length, the drums are the same diameter and load capacity is equal.

The only clue for a difference is the shipping dimensions which may indicate one has a wider drum (12" length box as opposed to the 7 1/2" length box). This would allow a longer cable. A longer cable will give more reach or allow a traveling block for 2X mechanical advantage or I suppose one could use multiple sheave blocks in the line for an even greater mechanical advantage. There is little point in that on such a small winch though because it is only rated at 1000 lbs and could pull itself apart that way.

You likely have to contact the dealer to find the differences since they don't spell it out for you here.

Called them up to get clarification...

According to the manufacturer, the only difference is one is boxed individually (to sit on a shelf in a retail store, pretty packaging) and the other is bulk packaged, like what a retailer would get (sitting in the back stockroom, no pretty packaging)
