Hello:

What difference exists if any between US and Canadian romex wire?

I have used both and the only thing I see is the ground wire is wrapped in paper in the US wire and it is not in the Canadian wire.

Designation for 14 gauge residential wire in Canada is NMD90 and the US equivalent in NMD-B. Both are rated to 90 degrees C.

Southwire is a big supplier in Canada and the wire is made in the US. It's rated NMD90.

So other than the wrapped ground wire is there any difference?

Thanks for your comments.

Regards,

Dave

I found some information about this. Apparently the Canadian NMD90 is constructed more like the UF wire used in the US, but designed for dry locations, unlike the UF.

Without knowing the real facts here, I'd have to guess that US and Canada have different wiring codes.
