Differences between Antique and Modern Sockets

So are grandpas old Challanger Proto 3/8 12pt sockets an old school design? They are completely flat on the bottom no dimpling around the area the ratchets drive goes into. I also don't see any indention's for the the ratchets ball bearing to go into. What if any effect does this have?

Well as an antique dealer sense 1962 for a hobby I am here to tell you that an antique must be 100 years old. I doubt if you ever have seen one that old. Old socket were hex drive and you flipped the ratchet for reverse. They were not big sets. Many had an hex wrench to drive them before ratchets came into use.
There are many different types but they all end up doing the same things. Old sockets work very well.
