Differences in White Lithium Grease

I was looking on Amazon for a small tube White Lithium grease and came across a 1.5 oz tube of Permatex brand for about $4 and an 8 oz of Lucas also for about $4. Is the Permatex that much “better”? Granted both are small dollars but the Lucas is 5 times more for the same price. More curious than anything else.

Probably pretty equal as there hasn't been much technology upgrades into that type of grease in like 50 years. What are you using it for? I have spray and tub white lithium greases that I really have to just get rid of as I haven't used them in years. Seems like they attract gunk and get gross and hard and modern lubricants are head and shoulders above it.

I got a tub at O'Reillys. I believe it's 1lb for $5 n some change. I use it literally on everything that I grease, vice base, door hinges, lube for pressing ball joints n other press connections

That's a good question. I've always wondered what the difference is between Sta-Lube white lithium grease and Lubriplate.

There is even a difference between different products from Lubriplate. I comes in different viscosities Not sure which one is in their tube. As a wild guess, as your two are for the same purpose, they are probably pretty much the same stuff.

Can you give me an example for better alternative? I am not a big fan of white lithium grease. I mostly use it on car door hinges and garage door.

I used to use plain old moly grease for most general purpose stuff, now i use this stuff;

Apart from the fact it doesn't turn everything black it seems to cling better.

If your looking for stuff to use in a grease gun then millers does some decent blue grease in a cartridge;

I use this for greasing underbody point etc.. flows out the gun better in the cold weather, i'm assuming its working better in winter etc..

If your looking for a spray then PMA do a good clear grease spray, decent enough for hinges etc..

I can't offer any info on any difference in the product(s). However, the price difference MAY have something to do with the market demand for Lithium, which has been going up.

Yeah, I think moly grease would likely hang onto the gears better than lithium grease. I sometimes use the grease that was used on distributer cams ("point grease"?), and that stuck real well and was very slippery.

in my experience white grease is good for lubricating things to helps with assembly but does not provide a good film strength for any type of load. im sure in low load applications its fine. i mainly use it on seals when rebuilding motors but regular chassis grease work just as well if not better, its just what my boss wants me to use

It comes in aerosol form, too for getting it into tight places. I like both. It is silicone grease with teflon. It is even food safe. I remember the rep. putting it on his tongue.

I think this is it. One item was add on and the other was straight free shipping. I ended up getting the Permatex locally (because it’s what they had in the store) for less than what Amazon wanted for it.
