Difficulty removing thermopile from gas log system

Hello,

I have a bad thermopile in my gas log system (verified with a voltmeter) and other than restricted access I didn't think it would be too hard to replace it. I figured once you undid the brass coupler at the bottom of it, you could just push it down and it would go right through. However it goes down almost all the way but the last 1/4" or so, it will not go through.

I cannot find information anywhere about replacing a thermopile so I am asking for some advice here. Do I just need to use more force and eventually it will capitulate? I tried rotating it with a pair of needle nose but it just does not want to budge that last bit before it comes out.

Edit: well, I got it out but it involved a hammer and a punch lol. Gas logs are 12 years old but don't get used a ton living here in NC, so I was surprised at how tight the bastage was in there.

Most of the byproducts from burning gas is water vapor. The first time you turn it on it starts to rust. Mostof the older systems had a nut on the thermocouple. Newer replacement have a spring clip nd reppace the nuts.

Had a recent problem with a thermopile on an infrared garage heater.
Installed new thermopile and main burner still wouldn't light.
Heated thermopile with propane bottle torch and unit lit.
Cleaned the pilot assembly and everything is good.
Evidently the pilot was dirty enough to not reach a high enough temperature.
