When I was in carpentry we had a few older Craftsman digital levels. They worked really well and weren't expensive. Plus, if they offer a warranty it will be easier to go to Sears rather than going through the whole mail in thing or whatever with a lesser known brand.
This isn't the one we had, but it has pretty good reviews. http://m.sears.com/craftsman-digita...VuBA9qR6KP8FaX38ISlKIaAvL88P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

I got that exact one on a black friday sale when they first came out for $17.
It's ok if you're shooting for a specific angle (say for a slope or as a digital angle gauge), but the precision isn't that great as a true level.

I could've used a decent level the other day. I was over at my wife's friend's house to hang some bathroom mirrors and all I had was an el cheapo 99 cent HF torpedo level and a tape measure. The accuracy of such is probably good enough to hang some bathroom mirrors, but I could've used the long straight edge of a large level to draw my lines on the wall.

I guess a "carpenter's square" is what I needed. I had 2 mirrors to hang above 2 sinks in the master bedroom. I figured out how far away the wall was from the exact middle of each faucet and transferred that to the wall and drew a vertical line on the wall. I could've used the carpenter's square to then draw a nice perpendicular line off that line, and then measure 20 inches across (length between the 2 hanging brackets on the mirrors). But not having one, I used the small torpedo level as a makeshift straight edge.

Ugh, always bring more tools than you think you need. And it ***** because now I am an expert at hanging bathroom mirrors but I will probably never hang another one, since most people have medicine cabinets. :)

Oooooh-Ahhhhhhh factor. Not much else.

Not sure I buy it just being the Oooooh-Ahhhhhhh factor. I like my digital vernier caliper because of the instant reading. A quicker '0' display level would be the same and a tone would allow you to know level while marking without looking at a bubble.

Of course tools are a a personal choice so I respect whatever works for the user.

That would be a great choice.

Thanks, I thought it looked like a nice unit.

I find my Bosch Model GLL 2-15 Self-Leveling Cross-Line Laser Level with BM3 Positioning Device very handy for that kind of stuff.

Wow, that looks like a fun and useful tool. I don't own any laser layout tools. You can never have enough tools. Heck I even forgot to bring my scratch awl with me so I could mark spots where I needed to drill mounts for window blinds. The window trim was too dark for my pencil marks to show up. So I just held the mounts in place and brought my drill up and drilled a small hole in both spots, then removed the mount to finish drilling.

I am slowly getting my "handyman's general toolbox" fitted out with necessary tools.

I will give you that...
