Dimabrush dust control question

I have read a lot of threads about grinding and the dust problem. My question has anyone tried using a shop vac without any filter and putting a hose in the discharge port to pump the dust outside? Just a thought.

I am looking hard at the Rust Bullet and I will have to do some grinding. My local HD does not have the machine with dust vac on it.

It might work. Whats the cost of a new shop vac, compared to a couple filters though......

Without the dust shroud it will spray dust out. A shop vac will have a heard time keeping up, without a way to contain it...

I saw the home aid dust control box one of the other posters showed and was going to try that. The reason for removing the filter is I thought it plugged up real fast on a normal shop vac. I am not trying to be cheap I just don't want to stop every few minutes to clean a filter. I wish the local HD had the dust control unit but they don't.
I really did not want to go with wet grinding if I could help it. The shop is finished except the floor and I did not want to try to protect the sheetrock from water problems plus the extra dry time for the cement.

Thanks for the replies.

David, see if there is a pre-filter bag available for your unit. We use these in our Dusteless brand vacs. No dust issues at all.

I used a plastic box with a cut out for the floor polisher handle. Vacuum floor cleaning attachment was bungeed to the polisher handle. Rigid has pre-filter bags for their vacs for doing drywall etc. Make sure you leave the standard filter in place...the filter bags (rigid's anyway) ruptured fairly easily.

You're in florida..just wet your floor. Zero dust.

I did mine wet. No dust.

Wet works well. We recommend however using a wet vac on the slurry first before hosing it out or you will have quite the muddy slurry in your driveway and gutters.

I just ordered a dust shield for my 7" grinder yesterday. I still (at this point) want to try to dry grind as not to add water to the floor. I will keep you posted as to how it goes.
I did a test spot yesterday and it looks like it wont take too long to grind. The Dimabrush really lets you move fast. I was surprised at how MUCH dust is generated in a few short seconds. Now waiting on the dust shield.

I used a variable speed buffer from HF. I bought a Dewalt dust shroud and with a little help from Mickey Mouse I was able to make it work. I used a 2 Inch piece of garage weatherstrip and created a base at the shroud. Hooked up the dust vac and had no issues with dust. Just make sure you clean your filter on the shop vac. I'll post some photos of my setup tomorrow. I spent roughly about 250 for the setup including the dimabrush. I was able to grind down and easy 2000 square feet. The dimabrush still has some life in it. I think that by using a variable speed grinder it really helps to keep the tool temp down. An angle grinder is way to fast an will cut down on the life of the dimabrush. In any case I'll post some photos when I get to my shop in the morning.

I would advise against using water it's too messy.

If you use the Rust Bullet system you can borrow or vac and shroud for an angle grinder or just the vac if renting. We require a deposit and you pay for the filters

Thanks for the offer. I have a friend who loaned me a cyclone separator on a 55 gal drum and I bought a new shop vac. My grinding is now done. I used my 7" angle grinder for most of my trim work but wound up renting a 10" walk behind concrete grinder from HD. He talked me out of the floor machine with the Dimabrush. He said it would not do the job.
I finished the Pour and Restore treatment this past weekend and will be using the Metal Blast this week.

I am still deciding on the flake color but should be ordering the Rust Bullet this week.
