Picked up an HF hydraulic knockout setup........need to open up the holes on the dies and thread them........should work out pretty well as a stand alone setup I hope.........Jim
Wasn't intending to buy a Knockout setup........I am going to build a dedicated louver press/die press...........I bought this on a whim.......sorry it doesn't meet with your approval..Jim
I certainly wasn't trying to be judgmental, I just didn't see the logic in buying the HF unit. Sorry if I offended you

No problem.....It's been a long day already and I'm a little edgy.....lol I wasn't really intending to buy this it just sorta happened.....I may indeed purchase a set of the pipe size dies.......nothin worse than a little money burnin a hole in your pocket.....No harm No foul.........Jim
Got my set on Friday. Arrived safe and sound. Looks great and can't wait to try them out. Just got more gas for the tig welder and need to make a couple of dust pans so I figure I will try and make some lighting holes on them somewhere and I will post up the pictures.
Just curious, I need to box my frame for my model A and want to put flared lighting holes with either the 1.25" or 1.5" die and was wondering if I could use a hardened top flare since they take the most abuse and then the bottom die that I just got? That way I only have to by an expensive top die. If that is possible, what would a top die in 1-1/4 using heat treatable metal cost?
Anyone had time to play with there Dies this weekend?
Thank's to the six who bought some so far.I'll break even on the materials when I get to 10.
I still have 24 sets........

i'll probably grab a set of regulars next month if theres still any but i'm waiting to get the pipe size first. have you started on those yet?

Thank's Jim. I was quite happy with the outcome of those parts.
Some testing I did with some 4340.
I need to adjust the feeds n speeds a little.
This one sent the machine into alarm!

Need a little more time to play around with that.......
Anyway, I have put the Pipe sizes up for sale and am extending the special $15.00 discount for a while on both sizes.
They will be ready to ship around the 1st of April. This is no joke!
So far, out of about 40 guys who wanted the regular sizes, a proud 6 members stepped up to there commitment and got a set....Thank you guys!
I will finish the 10 sets of pipe sizes I already started before making oodles of them.Un less there is commitment for more from members.

Alrighty.........well that ***** everybody wanted them ........guess it was a case of the eyes are bigger then the stomach syndrome............They are still cheaper than any other sets I have found online so I don't see why they're not jumping off the shelf..............If I can swing theextra I'll be ordering up a set of the pipe size to go with my first set...........they are DEFINITELY works of art................Jim
I recieved mine no problem. It's a shame that people said they wanted these so bad and they are not stepping up to by them. Thank you nastzen for making a very useful tool at an affordable price.
I cant believe I missed this thread until now.... I am going to be in on a set of pipe dies as soon as I can get the order site to recognize my cookies... I changed my settings but no luck so far... I am sure its operator error on my end but somehow I will get an order in!![]()
I am in for a pipe set. I just have to wait until the 1st of the month.

Shoot some pics of the 4340 units when you're done. I'm still interested in something I can heat treat.

It was my usual fight of man versus smarter machine but man won this round and an order was put in for the pipe dies! Now all I have to do is come up with a project!!!
Thank's to all the members who have purchased Pipe dies so far. That's encouraging.
The lathe is still loaded for 3-4 more days.
A few more days of mopping up prior engagements and projects.....
Then I'll be makin more Dimple Dies!
With all this talk of hydraulic punches......Now I want a hydraulic punch set to match with my personal Dimple Dies.
Where to get a good buy in Canada?
Claude
I looked on the Harbor Freight website and this is the nearest store to you
Glad you are staying busy
Sir, any news on the shipping for the Pipe set yet?
Rgrds
I found my new dislike in one of my tools. Bi-Metal hole saws!!! Hate is such a stong word but these things are one step away from being hated and never allowed in the shop again!

And I plan to get the pipe size dies once I get the knockout set. But don't you still have to drill a decent size hole for the bolt to go thru?
Regardless, you still need a set of hole cutters for a tubing notcher or when you need an actual size hole that the knockout set just can't do like 1/2" or 3/4". In that case, I would like a good carbide tip cutter.
Hole saws are great. But you need to be able to setup on a drill press and clamp your work to get the best results. Proper rpm is also quite important.
I cheat and use my 50ton iron worker for anything smaller than 1.5''. It came with all kinds of hole punches.
I really want a hydraulic hole punch kit for those hard to get at places.
The good people from Creaform were here to scan a project I've been working on. My shop was like star wars for a day.
They use a hand held laser to digitize objects. It's pretty far out how they more or less use the laser like a paint spray gun to scan and it get the picture appearing slowly on the screen like the mummy.
I asked if I could have a set of dies scanned for fun.
This is a screen shot I took from Solid Works of the STL.
