The RR Buildings YouTube channel's latest video shows how they directional bore conduit for underground electrical service to his new shop building. They have to go a couple hundred feet, including under a small creek. It's a pretty good instructional video to show how the process works.

In my career as an electrical engineer I watched this done many times, and it always seemed a little magical.

Had some boring done today at work. Took about 2 hours to go 10 feet under a sidewalk. Nothing but gravel and crushed concrete. They weren't happy.

We did a lot of boring back in the 90s,we bored under the Elkhorn river.
They told us it couldn't be done.
The name boring pretty much sums up my experience with the process. Hahaha

A couple years ago, a 42" o.d. pipe was directional bored under the local shipping channel. As I recall, the bore length was around 6,000 feet.

Although I know the theory of how it works, how it steers and how they track its location, particularly on the modern machines is like magic. So impressive !
