Disable tags?

Is it time to remove the thread tag option? I don't notice useful tags on anything around here... it looks like the tag function is used for bitchy passive-aggressive whining. Doesn't seem like what GJ is about.

Sounds like you're describing most of the haters on this forum. People that need a lot more in life to do.

It has been pointed out by the mods and maybe even the admin that they can determine who is responsible for the idiocy now appearing below the thread. But that is very time consuming so it's not done.

I therefore too vote to disable the tag function. I don't think it helps the search-ability at all. And the trash talkers will have to find another way to dispense their venom. If they put it in a post they will be banned. That's what we need.

I don't even know what a tag is. But I thought bitchy passive-aggressive whining WAS what GJ was all about.

Ha ha, maybe so... the tags are used for personal attacks, though, which is little different than the generic bitching everyone does somewhere.

I've never done a tag search. The vBulletin search software isn't very effective, so I just use google. I don't think the tags fulfill any useful function.

 Well said. I mean how many keyboard commandos would say half of those things to your face in person? Not many.

I think the tags are some of the funniest parts of some threads...I say leave 'em, though I don't really know what purpose they serve.

Meh, I've got a sense of humor, the ****'s not funny. It's a lot less like witty barbs, and a lot more like playground name-calling that (like Zeke said) would get the tagger banned if they posted it.

Glad to hear you use tags for their intended purpose.

lotta AdamC callouts out there (like http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305419), nearly every thread Ponchoguy posts in, anything in Free Parking that goes south, seem to recall that sberry thread that got locked, probably this thread eventually... :lol_hitti

The tags are the best part of this thread.
(And, no, I didn't add any.)

lol, they're fine. It looks like some of the more childish ones get removed, they disappear when a thread is locked, and most of the nastiest ones I recall seeing lately were in threads that got deleted.

It seems to me there was a time you had to actually post in the thread to put a tag on it. Then it seemed to change where anybody could put a tag on a thread without even posting in it. And that's when it got out of hand?

Anyway, tags can stay gone as far as I'm concerned.
