I've got the rolling cart:

Would like to disable the locking mechanism so the drawers can be opened even with the top lid closed.
I tried searching the mega mods thread for HF boxes but must be using the wrong search string because I'm not finding anything.

Do I just remove those three pins on the lid?
Do they just tap out? Because I tried tapping one out but must not be putting enough muscle into it because it's not budging.
I'm guessing that's the trick though. Remove those three pins?

I keep the lid on my box up all the time, so if you want to shut your lid, you'll have to find some way to keep the locking bar totally up and out of the way of locking the drawers....

I don't have that chest so I'm not sure if the picture reflects the locking mechanism correctly. For that style, I tap the pins out of the top of the locking bars under the lid and pull the bars up and out of the box.

CZ Eddie, don't know if the cart is made the same way as the boxes, but this is how I by-passed the locking bars on the HF top box (look at post #3 in the link)

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305091

Hope this helps.....the pins on this box had a head on one end so there was only one way to drive them out.

.

Excellent, this was exactly what I needed.
That and to just not be a wuss about punching out the pins.
I just duplicated your mod and I'm good to go.

Thanks, everyone!

I did that to my Craftsman box too
Its a PITA to have to open the top all the time.
its at home, so I don't lock it.

i can see doing this on a stationary unit but on units that will be moved i just don't see doing it. i have seen carts tip over to many times to think disabling that safety feature is a good idea. on my hf4 cart i just open the drawers and then shut the lid. the drawers close good enough when stationary. but i can always lock the drawers when i need to move it.
personal choice and all that. just think twice about it.

got to agree here. The simplest way is the best way...and this is it!
