Benefits, Pros Cons of Xylene based?
Pros
1. Dries fast, I was able to get 3 coats on in one day.
2. Has a nice sheen, not too glossy, but nice.
3. Haven't noticed it being slick when wet.
4. Had some road tar come off my tires when I came off the oil and chip road on the backside of my subdivision. A rag with a little Ronson light fluid took it right off with no damage to the finish.
5. I got mine for $198 shipped for 5 gallons although I had to buy two additional gallons for finish. Ended up with about a 1/3 gallon left over. That was 780 sq. ft, 3 coats.
6. No pot life. As long as you don't let this stuff freeze it has a shelf life of two years, unlike epoxy that you mix and only have about 30 minutes to use before it gets hard.
7. We've had out fair share of 90+ degree days and I pulled right in to my garage with hot tires and it looks as good as the day I applied it.
Cons
1. Application. I followed the directions on using a 3/4 inch roller nap and got air bubbles. Buffed it down with my floor scrubber and rolled a small section then used a flat paint pad 9 inches wide. That seemed to pull the sealer making it heavy in some areas. Buffed it again and at my brothers advise mopped it on with a commercial type janitor mop, wringer, and bucket. Those were trashed when I was done. My floor ended up pretty nice, you can see some of the marks from different applications. It's not smooth as glass. If I had it to do over again I might try a $70 Wagner airless sprayer.
Overall I'm more than happy with the Butterfield Color Coat sealer. When it's time to reapply all I have to do is hose it off, dry it and put down more. The new sealer will "mix" with the old stuff. No more prep. The only draw back with that is say if you have a white floor and decide you want to change it to black.... it will turn gray. Blue floor to green floor you'll probably wind up with a god awfull purple color, and so on. I've posted these pictures before but I'll show it off again.....
