Disappointed with RaceDeck

On my Gladiator plastic tiles, jacking up a car with a simple roller jack caused damage / punctures to the tile. That was enough to make me ditch it for my next garage remodel project. That and the sound makes it feel a bit cheap (even though it's expensive).

I assume PEI 5 porcelain tile would hold up to little bits of welding without as much damage? Much more expensive to install of course.

sounds like the floor would have been more appropriate if stained out porcelain tile.

The solution to this problem is to only do TIG welding. Welds everything, beautiful welds, no spatter no slag. And it will only slow you down about as much as putting temporary covers over the floor.

There is no garage flooring option that Ive come across that can't be damaged to some extent by chemicals, ,welding, etc. Some hide it better than others and it really depends on what you can live with. I've seen auto shops with every type of flooring and if any serious work goes on for any length of time it's going to show, like mentioned I personally think it adds character.

yup...believe it or not, that is why i got a TIG and went to the Lincoln welding school for a week...well also my cars are aluminium bodied and I never got the hang of MIG welding. My MIG has not been used in 7 or 8 years now.

For the past 30 years that all I've used for welding (TIG). Saves the floor and everything else for sure. but, requires special skills to use TIG proficiently...

I had my issues with race deck but it was due to the sun expanding it and buckling it. Trimming the edges helped.

I guess it seems this popular racedeck flooring is just for pretty basically.
I am certain Racedeck flooring does make a garage floor look pretty, but let's be realistic here, people aren't putting it down to make their floor look ugly. From everything I have read, when people put Racedeck tiles down on their garage floor their floor looks good and it cleans up easily. Also, the tiles protect the concrete from getting all stained up from oil and other fluid spills that invariably occur. Are there floor coverings more durable than these plastic tiles? Of course, but how much are you willing to spend to get the most durability?
