Disassemble Lista shell?

I'm going to take a look and most likely purchase this, been holding out for a cabinet for a while. Only negatives I could see are the lack of deep drawers and the damage on the upper left corner.Can I access the back of that corner to hammer out the dent, or are they double walled?

I'd want to confirm that it's square and that the drawers open and close. But you could patch in a piece, or use body filler -- lots of ways to fix it.

Those things are phenomenal for tool storage.

I just finished up my lista cabinet. The top was damaged in a fire, so i just folded up a new top and welded it in place. They are single wall, but they have structural runners in the corners, so i doubt you'd be able to hammer it out.

$2200 cabinet for $100 and a little TLC. I'll take it.

It you want it, take a look and judge for yourself, lista cabinets rarely pop up on kijiji. $400 in our small market is good IMO.

Give you an example, snap on krl722 toolbox over here is in the 4-5 G range, hop on over to Buffalo, 2 listed for 2200 OBO and 2500 OBO.

If all the drawers work properly, that's a good price where I come from. There may be a sticker with the build date, somewhere on the inside of the cabinet.

Only thing that would cause me to re think the purchase. Otherwise it looks to be in really good condition, no rust issues or the like. That is A LOT of storage space for the minimal amount of floor space it takes up. Roughly equivalent to ~25 standard 26" bottom box drawers. Hope it turns out well for you.

OP, cut the corner piece off and weld in a replacement piece.

Here in SoCal, an everyday price is around $100/drawer. A pretty good deal is around $50/drawer. Some members haved scored for less. If the damage doesn't extend to the operation of the drawers, that's a deal.

and that's good storage b/c it is tall. Seems like so many of us have short boxes that take up valuable floor space. I know I do. Here in SoCal I have seem them for that price, but I'm cheap, so I watch CL everyday. But that would still be a solid buy for $400. Contingent on it being square.

Like other said, no rust, clean, appears to be taken care of. I doubt that it is tweaked, those boxes are tanks, and I hope for your sake it is straight. Bring a 12 pack of ice cold and 300 bucks.

So after measuring seems like my workbench got shortened to 25" after mocking up the Lista's position. Cabinet space is more important I think. Next project will be a few fold down benches on the walls.

There was a bit more damage than I thought. However the shell doesn't seem to be racked, all the drawers open and close fine except for the one on the very to which gets caught up slightly on the damaged corner. Apparently it was an order for Magna that was filled by Fastenal except the shipping company toppled it mid transit so everything is new. Has the fork truck base and is indeed a SC1350-1502F so it has the 440 pound full extension slides with POM bearings!

Don't know if I can bang out the corner but I will for sure take a bar to the lid so the drawer can slide in and out freely. The lock rod disengaged itself from the cylinder I presume from the drop. I managed to get it working again but it still slides in and out.

That's a lot of damage to that corner

I think I would ask list if they could sell you another top even though it will be bare metal or I would make one. To me that would be easier thatpn trying to patch that corner.
With the top off you may be able to better straighten the top corner of the side. The remainder of the damage I dont think is too bad and I wouldn't mess with it.

Great score on a great box. $100 a drawer is what they bring here often too. I have bought many for less but they don't come up often.

Bang it somewhat flat and make a steel "hat" with a cutout for the keyhole.

Can you rotate the shell, then flip the drawers and lock mechanism so that the damage is on the bottom?

If you can get to the back side of that corner, I think you could beat it out pretty easily. I think you will be opening a can of worms if you try to replace the entire top. A few hammers, blocks of wood, pliers, c clamps, maybe a welder and a little touch up paint you could get that looking, but more importantly functioning like it should.

Did you check the diagonals to make sure it is square. That looks like it took one heck of a hit for that much damage to happen to the corner. I'm surprised it isn't twisted along the vertical.

Yep. I checked the back and it's spot on 63.5" each way. I didn't get to check if the corners were spot on 90 degrees. I will do the that when I give him the rest upon delivery. I can't get to that corner, the steel is edge is folded. I think my only option is to beat it flat or replace the top. I think I'm going to do the former. The other dents I can beat out with a hammer and a dolly.

Id cut the entire top off, and replace with a simple sheet metal pan. Youll likely be able to bang out the side damage with the top off.

That doesn't look bad at all. Just do a few small, flat patches and call it a day. Heck I bought one that was cut in half so you got a steal.

Because the steel is fairly thick, it's also pretty forgiving when it comes to bending it back. I had a very old cabinet that had taken a hit to the head and had a dent along the top of that same section. I just used a couple of big C-clamps to bend it back. It's not real easy to see, but it's on the top of this cabinet (well, the top of the two chopped-up cabinets that are stacked to make one).

And this was the fix:

Even if you don't weld, you could put a piece of steel or hardwood on each side of the damage, clamp the heck out of it, and then use bondo or whatever as filler if you want it to look pretty. That'll mean some paint, of course, but it doesn't have to be a huge job.

I pulled the old lock cylinders and welded up the face on mine.

Fell through, decided that it was a lot of damage after all and getting a new top was not possible unless it was custom fabbed. An invisible repair couldn't be done, so I have decided to let this one go for now. I have my eyes set on another one:

I was the first to call him and he said they are in transit and took down my number. Ballpark range about $300-$500. Seems like this is an older unit (can anyone confirm?), but cosmetically it looks pretty good. He has 8 of them, I may pick up a few. Drawer setup seems to in the 3" to 5" range, no short drawers. Don't know how that's going to fare, but it does come with partitions and dividers. Too bad the suspension and carriages can't be swapped between new and old.

Those are some of the cleanest Listas I have ever seen used. Even at 500, it's a deal. Around here you'd have no problem getting your money back and then some if you had to resell. If you got the ends, pick up a couple. You won't regret it. I swear those tall ones have the storage of 3 40" rollers or more.

How old they are matters very little. What matters is how they were maintained. I deal mostly with Vidmars but I rarely come across cabinets in the same condition as the ones you just posted. I would recommend jumping on them.
