disassembly help with small vise

I’m stuck but I know I’ve come to the right place. I’ve got the dynamic jaw separated but now I’d like to be able to remove the screw and handle. I did my best with the pictures so I hope someone has tinkered with a vise similar to this one before. As you can see in the picture there is some sort of metal spring clip holding the screw in place but I can’t figure out how to remove it. The area of the clip between the screw and the top slide is solid but the space between the screw and the bottom slide is open. Maybe that’s some kind of clue. The handle side of the screw has a small washer/spacer but is a solid piece meaning it's not a removable snap ring or anything. Hopefully someone can help me out as I’d like to give this little guy a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint and put it back to work. As you can see it's two different colors for some reason.

Does anyone have a clue as to who the manufacturer is also? It says made in USA but I don’t see anything else other than the code: C595. It seems like a well made little vise. I like the double slide feature. I just wish it had removable jaws.

I'm going to guess the two support shafts need to be removed, (maybe they screw out?) and then the clip slides up and unlocks the main screw.

No clue on maker but wire wheel the main screw head and see if there is any marking on that.

Two tone colors were common on clamp on vises for a time; if that is red/blue it might be a Millers Falls? :dunno:

Very interesting info about the two tone vises. I'd never seen/heard of that. I was thinking that the slides may need to be removed. I was hesitant to try to take them off. Figured I'd check here first. There is no hex or slot for a allen wrench/screw driver on the opposite end of the slides so... pliers? Makes me wince just thinking about it.

I would not use pliers, you will likely gouge up the supports with a toothed grip. (No fun dressing those down..)

two options:

use a hacksaw and cut a screwdriver slot in the end of one. see if it turns out and if it does, do the other.

If it doesn't then get a hold of the end of one in a vise or with Vices grips (using the tips of the grips and from the end) and see if you can work it back and forth and pull it. (if it doesn't screw out it's likely a light press fit, and this is likely the case IMO)

I don't suppose there are any small holes from the front of the dynamic jaw where a punch could knock them out?

And I found my son's vise project; other than his being a swivel base mount (missing but a clamp on swivel base...) it's a dead ringer for yours. If it's not Millers Falls it was made by whoever was making them for MF.

Yeah that does look very similar to mine. I wish mine had a swivel base like that one.

No to the holes on the front of the dynamic jaw. That'd be too easy. Just by looking at it though, both of the slides have to be removed in order for the spring clip to be slid out of the way for the screw to come off. I'll give it a go when I get another chance to go in the garage.

Now that I have a better idea of the manufacturer I'm not sure if I want to paint it. I was going to paint it blue to match my other vise and other accessories I have in the garage; air lines, hose reels, etc. I was going with a blue/white theme out there. Maybe I should repaint it the red/black that it is. Although, I doubt this little guy has much market value.

Well the slides were held in with a press fit. I was able to wiggle them loose with some wd-40 and channel locks. Now I can really clean this thing up nice and remove the surface corrosion on the slides. Thanks for all the help Outlawmws.
