disc brake clock knock off?

Are these two clocks of the same brand (AutoArt)? I have no doubt it may come from the same factory in china.. saw in the HF flyer have the first one on sale these 3 days for $14.99..

the second one is the one I have seen before in catalogs. Always wanted one but didn't want to pay $50-$60 for them.

They look similiar, but my bet is that one is a knock off and the other is an original. The differance that I see is one has a white face, and the other has a black face without numbers.

You will find most factories in China make copies from the next factory as an example two brothers may run two factories and both make the same product. that way they can avoid legal hassles if one gets shut down. I have been there and been told / seen this 1st hand.

I was told it a little bit different. One factory will have the legitimate contract, and the workers will steal one and give it to a friend at another factor to knock it off as a counterfeit. There is no honesty among theives. The real problem is that the Chinesse government doesn't care about these illegal activities until it makes it into the news such as with the tainted dog food. Then they give the owners a fair trial, bring them out of the court house, and exicute them immediately. All this happens at the same time they destroy the manufacturing plant and all the evidence. I am not certain who is more corrupt... the Chinesse government or the factory owners.

Probably both the same company. It's just that today they can sell it for a higher price and not put as much into it, hence the difference in looks. The one with the numbers is probably the original, but if we leave off a few numbers cheapen this up a little bit, cut back there, then we can up the price by a few more bucks.

No knock-off, it’s the same clock - Acu-Rite model 50316 14" Disc Brake Clock, by Chaney Instrument. Acu-Rite is a brand name of Chaney Instrument Company.

That clock is available all over the internet by different vendors from less than $20 to about $50.

I've bought other Acu-Rite products and they are good stuff and well made. I bought a humidity gage for my shop and ran into the same thing - the gage was available at a wide range of prices. I bought it thru Amazon and had it in three days.

Junkman. I do not doubt your information. but I have I can say I have seen and experienced it first hand and seen China whilst dealing with the Chinese.

On a different note did any one hear about the Aussie Tourist Group from Aussie Travel Agencies kidnapped in China last week ? Chinese Police used a Sniper to kill the Kidnapper. Apparently he had explosives on him. Dealt with in a true Chinese no nonsense way. They got kidnapped in a popular tourist area near the Terracotta Army. Not what the Chinese need before the Oylimpic games.

All of the real auto art items I see have the font on AUTO larger and bold and the ART smaller and thinner. It looks like your white face autoart has same size block letters. That says rip off to me.

However,

Who cares if it's a rip off clock. You wanted a lock that looks like a disc brake and you get one. Now if they were selling it for same or higher than the real one then I'd be pissed.

Sort of like like folks who buy the fake rolex watches downtown are not shocked when they learn the watch they spent $8 on is not really a $2000 version...
