What's the forum's opinion on air compressor valves? Are discs better than reeds or vice versa? Looking at a new compressor purchase soon and need some advice. Thanks.

I think most will agree that disc are better (more like automotive style). You can take out a disc valve without needing a head job.

However, for home use, reeds last a very long time. By the time reeds need work, you are probably reaching the pump's life.

I'm not an expert, though.

Disc valves are less likely to come apart and get sucked into the cylinder than a broken strip(reed) valve.

I concur.

The main reasons for disc valves are to eliminate the tank check valve and provide a serviceable long-life valve for compressors that have lifespans substantially longer than a home shop machine.

My compressor has a tank check valve dispite having disk valves.

Aye, some do and some don't.

One of Quincy's selling points on the QR-25's is that the disc valves are lapped to their seats such that no check valve is required.
