I was able to score a used fridge/freezer for my shed. The only reason I wanted one is to keep some cold ones there so I don't need the freezer. Is there a way to disconnect/turn off the freezer? The dial doesn't have an off position so I was hoping there was a different way of shutting it off.

I'd just put it on the warmest setting. If you aren't using it/opening the door, the power consumption will be minimal. Might even work for additional beer capacity if it doesn't get too cold.

Most residential refrigerators have one compressor and one evaporator coil in the freezer section. Some have an evap coil in the freezer and cooler section but still only one compressor.
So, nope, you can't just disconnect the freezer. Fill it with blue ice or water bottles. If you leave it empty the fridge thermostat will cycle off and on more frequently.

If you managed to disconnect the freezer then the fridge would no longer work. All the cooling happens in the freezer. The fridge just works by letting in some cold air from the freezer.

Run it normally, your wife will find plenty of stuff to put in it. By next year you'll have to buy a bigger fridge with a larger freezer..........:eyecrazy:

No. Absolutely not. The cooling in the fridge comes from the freezer.

I do not recommend leaving a refrigerator unplugged unless you are doing an experiment in Molecular biology.

even if you don't use the freezer keep it full of stuff. Just put some containers of water to take up space. it needs some mass in there to operate efficiently.
