Dismantling a bench grinder - how to remove end bits

I apologise in advance for my ignorance when it comes to the names of parts of machines.

I've been given a "Blue Point" bench grinder.

It works perfectly fine. However, it's very dirty/rusty and has been in use for years.

I'd like to clean it up and lube the parts that need it.

In order to do that, I need to get at the internals and I'm stuck because I can't get these end bits off ( I think they're called 'caps'):


I'm thinking I need gear/bearing pullers (which I don't own at the moment). But I'm not sure. I'm grateful for any advice on how to remove these end caps.

You are right, you need a gear/bearing puller to remove them.

I ran into the same problem with my 50's Craftsman grinder.

Woa, more pics of the grinder please. That thing must be old. I've only seen BP grinder browsing the old collecting snap on catalogs.
