I was looking at some used tools, in this case a Disston Saw came up. Not sure if Disston's are still produced, but this one seems of the recent variety.
I looked on the http://www.disstonianinstitute.com/ and for D8's they list up to the mid 1950's, none of them have the big print Disston name like this saw. Anyone know around what time period this would be from and if it is as good as the older ones (pre-1950)?
I am hoping to avoid something to "modern" where they skimped on quality, or God forbid, was made in China (don't know if Disston ever had production in China, just guessing).
It is in excellant shape and has a nice looking handle. I know I could probably find some in flea markets (and cheap price) but they are usually quite rusty, pitted, broken or cracked handles. If this one is a "good vintage", I might get it because of the shape it is in. From my understanding, Disston D8's when they were new, were not cheap, depending the year we are talking about....not sure if it was mid 70's or 80's, or maybe more recent, but I have heard D8's going for over 100 beans new in the store.
Any info would be appreciated
