Don't know how I missed this, but you're hauling **** on that deal. Excellent build. You will like the 26' for sure. I'm 24x40 and would not turn down 2' more in width. Used to cut through Aledo all the time going to Pate when it was down at the museum. Nice town kinda hidden off the I-20 path.

Looks awesome! You have inspired me to get back to designing my shop. 18x30 is the goal.

As a contractor who regularly builds in Texas, you will be very glad you added the extra footing grade beams if you have fatty clay (heaving soil) on your property. It is very common in Texas.

Im loving watching this. My garage is in the beginning stages and is the same size as yours but a pole foundation. Almost looks the same but with a 4/12 roof

Just saw the 8ft man door. What that run you and do you know how much space you will have under the window to the floor? I may want to do that with mine since I will have 12ft walls

Great build and thanks for supplying the pics and running story. You've got some great friends there too so you must be doing something right in your life. I also wanted to comment on how clean you've kept the area during the build. I know I love my 24 x 36 two story garage and I'm sure you'll feel the same about yours.

I enjoy living out here. Close enough to town but with a little space and a great school district. I always keep hearing the bigger the better and you are going to need more room. When I first stood the walls up it looked huge but now with the roof on and I parked my truck and trailer in there the space filled up pretty quick. So from now on I'll be a build it bigger then you think kind of person. The plan started out as a 24x36 and grew to 26x40. I counldnt get much bigger because where I wanted to put it. There are trees and the electric feed line to the house in the way.

I ordered the door from Home Depot. It's a Masonite brand 1/2 lite steel door. About $400 for the prehung door. The window openings are 36"x60", 38" off the floor and 98" to the top of the opening to match the door height opening. Garage doors are 9' tall and 10' wide. It helps break up the wall from looking so tall and things look more proportionate in my opinion. I first saw it on xander 24'x32' build.

I've always helped my friends out doing whatever. Everytime I've called them to help I got at least a 90% showing. I couldn't believe it, with everyone busy life's other plans I figured I'd be digging deep looking for help. I've really only needed a crew 3 times for 2-3 hours each time. The rest of the work has been done by me and 1 friend at a time. One buddy I'll owe big after this, he has put in a lot of work and knows what he's doing. I can't thank him enough!

I am kind of OCD when it comes to my stuff and I don't like **** everywhere. I've been picking up and burning scrap wood from the begening to keep the trash to a minimum. So far it's paying off and my yard doesn't look like a dump.

Looks great, and once again nice job on making front page.

Out of curiosity, and sorry if I missed it, but what is that rolling staircase contraption you used when putting up the trusses? Pretty sweet.

It's a really old push around man lift. I borrowed it from a co-worker and I don't know how we would have done the job without it. He bought it at an auction for like $77, Money well spent!

I ran out of height on my little ladder. I found a 24' fiberglass extension ladder on Craigslist yesterday and went got it for. $75. It helped me finish sheeting the gable ends this weekend. I need to go shopping to get my windows and home wrap. I plan to start that part this coming week and I also need to order my garage doors. Hopefully I'll have it "dried in" and lockable with in the next couple weeks. I feel like the upper window is to high but any lower looks funny from the inside due to the loft floor and ceiling height.

Congrats on the front page mention.

Nice build and super clean....I have a garage that needs it, it is a process.

Looks like you will have a great garage.

Looks like you know what you are doing.
Fine work.

Honestly I have built a couple sheds before this and learned from those. It's been a learning experience building something this size and that will be finished to this level. When I get to places I'm not exactly sure what to do I go look at new home construction sites to see how they have done certain things or hit up trusty ol' google for advice.

The hardest part is being a machinist by trade and at work where .0002 is out of tol. Then when I measure something at home and its off 1/4" I'm freaking out. I just wonder what's considered "good enough" for a framing crew?

I went the other way. 1/4" was good and then I started doing work with my CNC, I had a bit of a learning curve.

Shop looks great!

How was Aledo's football game this week end? ;)

Just another "w", hopefully no bullying reports this time. Funny thing I went to high school they kicked the **** out of and moved out here a couple years ago.

Good Job and good for you! Glad to see someone else doing this. To me it's just what you do.My grandfather built their first house. My mom and dad and grandfather built the house and garage I grew up in. I helped dad build my first garage at his house. I built my house and trying to finish up my shop now. This website can be such an insperation to a lot of people, especially young people that have been taught everything comes in a blister pack from a foriegn land. Great build. Hope it turns out just the way you want it.

Front page mention! I just flipped through the pages- looks great. I'm just finishing up a bump-out myself on my tiny single garage and I know how satisfying it is to do it all yourself. Keep it up! Can't wait to see finished pics...

Ha! I am glad you mentioned your tolerance shock! I am a machinist in the process of building my first garage and I'm driving everybody nuts because .125 out makes me crazy! They also tease me because I'm using my Starrett tape measure with decimals on it ;) They make more sense to me. Great looking shop you have built yourself! Congratulations!

Great build. Congrats on the front page mentioning! As has been mentioned, it's awesome to see someone doing everything themselves. Many on here have done a great job at doing large parts on their own, but this is truly impressive.

My question, if you don't mind (I don't remember seeing it, so apologies if it's already mentioned) but what is the height in the attic truss? Perspective might be skewed by that one photo, but is it enough to stand in? Or to store boxes and have a knee-high crawl space?

Got my garage doors ordered today and they should be here on November 14th. I will start installing the man door and windows soon hopefully. The rain is holding me up but I did get the building wrap put on to help keep some water off the exterior osb. I plan on pulling wires for exterior lights and door opener sensors in the front wall then installing insulation and sheet rock before installing the garage doors.

Great build. Congrats on the front page mentioning! As has been mentioned, it's awesome to see someone doing everything themselves. Many on here have done a great job at doing large parts on their own, but this is truly impressive.

The height inside the attic is 6' before floor or ceiling, and that's only for about 5' of width. It's now really going to be used for living space. Most likely will be storage.

Jeeezzzzz how did I miss this build?!?! And in Aledo too?? Are you in Aledo proper or Annetta? If you need anymore help in the future shoot me a PM. We just moved out here in the summer and I sure don't mind meeting new garage junkies!!!
<-- Garagejunky before "The Journal".
Plus, I really need to get a feel for the size before I start my build. I am thinking 30x60 but just can't believe I'd use that much space!

Man I wish you had built this 5 years ago. I love your vaulted trusses and bonus room. I wish I had done that on my 25x40.

I'm southeast of town. If you have the room go for it. After the roof went on and I put my truck in there I realized it could be bigger. I'm working on a budget and space issues (few trees and electrical service line to house) I have a 3 car on the house to park in, a shed for lawn **** and so this will be used for projects. Feel free to stop by sometime and check it out.
