I have seen a lot of similiar lifts in dealerships, usually showcasing the cars in the front line. I am pretty sure I wouldn't like driving up one of those, or off. Maybe I could talk the wife into doing it for me, while I "supervise"?

While I have to give them an "A" for effort and ingenuity I think there are way to many potential problems to be of any real word use.

Cool idea...love that they tout it as being "portable".

I've got something like that...

(I need to get a more up-to-date photo.. I actually lowered the center point, so it's kinda like a giant set of ramps.)

Very common with used car dealerships. Seems like they all have at least one of them. The lift needs a support that can be locked down on the rear end to prevent inadvertent tipping of it after the car is put onto the ramps. You also would want rollers on the very ends of the ramps as they otherwise will be sliding on the concrete. (watch the video on the web page)

That's not a lift
It's a big fancy ramp

Bob

Basically... They are kinda nice, especially for oil changes.. My stang is parked on mine 24/7, and when I change the oil, all I do is warm up the engine, slide under with my creeper, drain pan, and wrenches.... It doesn't get any quicker then that... I have it down to less then ten minutes...

What is the max lift on yours Tampa? The one you have seems more practical than the one linked.

It's actually an old "Autolifters"... I want to say approx 2ft, when it is set up in it's highest setting... It was real scary the first time I put my car on it, since it kinda slams down, once you pull the car past the center point... When I bought it, I figured I could modify it so that it didn't slam down... I'll have to take some pics of the way it is set up now...

Looks useless to me except for oil changes, to do any suspension or brake work, you have to lift it off the ramp using the very things they say it eliminates.

There's not enough room down the middle to work, and it's at an awkward height - too low to sit under and too high to reach from a creeper.

I'll take a scissors lift or a Max Jack over this any day. My scissors lift is far more portable than this is......it has wheels on one end!

I have an SO scissor midrise also... A creeper is actually perfect for most basic work, (the way I now have it set up.) Besides oil changes, I can do ******, exhaust, drive shaft, fuel filter.. I think it's far from useless... Once I restore it, it will look cool to boot....

Yes, YOURS is, but the one Ron linked is considerably higher, hence my comments.

And what ties the two ramps together, if anything?

If there's a cross bar, how do you maneuver around it?

And if they're not tied together, what happens if one scoots slightly forward as you're driving up or down onto the ramps?

And Tampa, if that's your garage with the Mustang in it, what are those 4 round red things hanging from the ceiling between the garage doors?

Any association between you and Kwik-Lift?

Appears this may be the owner of Kwik-Lift posting SPAM without disclosing the fact.

Yupp, he is:

socal

you might try a kwiklift since you have a low ceiling.

That probably has the same pucker factor as driving a dozer off a flatbed trailer. That tipping point can really make your *** grab the seat.

Who knows?
I've got to say, the Kwik-Lift looks like a pretty good option for me.

I've got a low ceiling but can't see buying BendPak for the same amount of money it would cost me to buy a full sized 2-post lift.

I don't really need to have the vehicle up in the air either for most things.

Danny, I'll do some more reading and hopefully get in contact with you next year.

How do you use a drive on low lift like this for tire rotations and brake work?

Seems to me you still have to use a jack and jack stands to get the tire off the lift......I don't see the advantage.

Here's a real DIY ramp I saw on one of the car forums.

My quick lift has a center bridge, so when I need to pull a wheel I use an air operated bottle jack and jack stands. takes a couple of minutes max. I'd rather have a 4 post or a two post, but my garage has 8 foot ceilings, so not much choice there.

Many people are doing things more heavy duty than rotating their tires or installing pads and rotors.

When you need to remove, or install, a transmission, transfer case, bell housing and clutch, headers and exhaust, etc., you don't want some portable scissor lift with a bunch of **** under the middle of the car right where you need to work.

I'd hate to try to install this Flying Miata Butterfly Brace using a portable scissor lift.

Lol, whoever built the ramp in the first post didn't think about how they would work on the car. It's too high for a crawler but too low to stand and too low for a chair on wheels.

unless....a fully reclined lazy boy on caster wheels?

If I ever get around to building a new garage, I'm building a pit. Nothing to move, operate, or fail, just drive in, walk under.
