DIY compressor aftercooler help

Hey maybe someone here can help me. I have an old 2 ton coleman outdoor air conditioning unit with a bad compressor. I am thinking of making it into and aftercooler, removing the compressor unit and using the condensing coil as my aftercooler and using the exisitng evaporator fan to help cool everything. I would connect my 2 stage air compressor pump to the coil inlet and the outlet back to the tank. Does this seem like a viable solution to water in my air lines? Thanks in advance for any insight.

Possible, but a condenser coil will need to be altered to work, plus it is way larger than you need. You only need a 12x12, maybe a 12x18 coil. Also like you mention, it may trap water in the lower portion of the coil. Really for the work involved and the end result I would just buy an oil cooler coil like many use and go that way. look for a Hayden 1290.

I used a condenser coil from my old truck, and It worked OK for a while. I used compression couplings (I think 3/8") and some threaded adapters and steel braided teflon lined hose to put it between the pump and tank. The problem I had is, it was aluminum and eventually the aluminum tube split.

A Hayden DB-1260 for a 5Hp compressor or a DB 1290 for 7 HP is sufficient. I have a 1290 for my 5 Hp Quincy 325, which is more than needed. They come up on Ebay often, if you patient you can get a good buy, new or used is OK. Many other manufacturers sell the exact same coolers, Allison, Thermal Dynamics, Fluidyne, etc .

Just checked Ebay for a 1260 0r 1290 cooler, did not find any good prices, perhaps next week
