That's cool. I can't help but do a mental inventory of my supplies and I realize I have everything needed to make that right now, minus the actual LEDs. Hmmm.

There is so much wrong with that video.... No active or passive cooling. Hacking up a impact. No availabe dimming. Spotty battery protection. There are better diy lights out there.

Soon enough roughly that will show up for $50 in either corded or various cordless battery types.

There will be a bright future with the newer LED tech.

You can buy one from China for about 15 bucks powered by 18650 li-ions

I made several of these as a cordless usb magnetic base (wall-e) lamp for my bandsaw, mill, lathe and drill press. Sticks anywhere I put it on my machines, it's small and stays out of the way unlike my big lamps. No more cords, no batteries to change or to buy. It was cheap and bright for it's size, about $25 to make.

Works way better than expected.

I have serious doubts about the thermal dissipation he's putting in that Tupperware.

OTOH, you could go to eBay or Banggood and buy an LED landscaping light of about the same size which would be in a die cast case, put in an appropriate switching power supply and cobble on the battery connector from a dead tool and make something like that that would be serviceable for say less than $20.

You dont need to, you can use the 12/20v power source instead.. he just needed something for the slide pack to click into..

My solution to the DIY LED Light..........

Milwaukee M12 battery, Sealed weatherproof LED offroad light ( Amazon $17 for a pair 6000k 1800 lumen), PCV fitting, switch and wiring with connectors.

Used those same Kawell lights ( 8 totall for outdoor lighting on two driveways powered by 12v DC power supply controlled by a WeMo internet switch.


Since then I purchased two CAT lights at Costco. They were $29
