DIY Epoxy Application- How Long Did It Take?

I’m planning to apply epoxy to a new garage floor; the size is roughly 40’ x 40.' For those of you that have done this yourselves, I’m wondering how long it took to apply the epoxy, not including the time involved with preparing the surface (cleaning, etching, etc.). How many people were involved and how did you sequence the work (mixing, applying, rolling, applying chips, etc.) in sections so as not to have any visible lines between sections as they dried? Any other tips for efficient application over a large area? I’m planning to use Epoxy-Coat for this application and will likely be doing the job alone. Thanks in advance.

40 x 40 is a pretty good size project, getting a friend to assist would be a big help.

These products have limited potlife, so you'll need to divide the floor into smaller sections. How small depends on the potlife for the specific coating. If I were doing a floor by myself I'd try keep the sections under 250 ft2. Maybe even less if I were adding a good amount of flakes.

Start with small sections. If you find that things are going well it's easy enough to increase the section sizes, but if you start off with a section that's too large you could end up rushing to finish it and that can cause problems.

My space was much smaller (about 450 sqft) but I rolled each coat in about 45 minutes, including the flakes. I used Aquapon 35 (solvent based from PPG) that has a pot life of 4 hours. I did it by myself without issue. Since your space is 4X larger, I'd suggest some help even if you choose a long pot life product. Not sure where you're located, but laying it down can build up a sweat in 90F temps.

Now - it did take me forever to prep the floor, but you already have a grasp on that.

My wife helped me,we had fun. She was in charge of the chips. She also would help mix. You really need one extra person i think. It was a weekend project.Didnt park on it for about a week.
