Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT DIY Garage Transformation

White and gray back wall cabinets aren’t due in until the 20th. But I’m going up this weekend for laundry and freezer delivery. Will finish off the floor, check wiring on the lights, and probably install a bunch of white receptacles and switches.

Freezer came in. Matching fridge is back-ordered a month.
Popped in the last blue floor tiles. DId a little paint trim work. Did not finish trimming out the flooring, but it's darn close now. Replaced the receptacles with modern, up-to-date white units. Switches will be next trip.

New garage doors and lifts get installed tomorrow!

Windows order gets placed today.

Cabinets have finally arrived. I just need to pick them up, drive to the other house, and assemble them. Not sure yet if it’ll be next weekend, or the middle of January.

Got those new cabinets into the Tacoma, ready for their 150mi journey. But events are conspiring to keep me home this weekend, so I may not be able to install them, finish up the garage, or get to see my new doors in action until the 20th.

Due to drywall, paint, and plywood ceiling subfloor: fishing the new lines through isn't an option, and the garage door installer had to run the low-voltage lines to the openers exposed along the length of the ceiling and down the wall. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds unsightly. No pics as yet.
He recommends just painting over the wires.
I've been thinking of running 1/2" EMT conduit and pulling it through. But I don't really need gang or junction boxes at the ends, and am wondering if that might be a tad bit overkill. Probably overthinking it. They're small wires, and it IS a garage.

What would you do?

a) Leave the wires?
b) Paint the wires to match the walls? (I have paint leftover, and will need to do some touch-up next time I'm up.)
c) Run a white plastic raceway over the wires?
d) Run white metal Wiremold raceway over the wires?
e) Run the wires through galvanized EMT conduit and boxes?
f) Go nuts and run the wires through white architectural EMTconduit and paint the boxes and straps?
g) Mount a pair of 885LM wireless controllers near the house door. Cut and remove the wires from the ceiling, and mount the wired controllers adjacent to the lifts?
h) Other?

Answered my own question.
Had the builders take a couple shots of the opener wires, down the wall and along the ceiling.



Pretty unobtrusive, actually.
However, in my haste to make this space perfect, I already ordered a couple wireless transmitters. They were less than buying remotes for the car! Probably a little more than picking up galvanized EMT along with straps and boxes. But a lot less work, and I don't need to buy a tube bender.
So, while (a) is acceptable and (b) would probably be completely unnoticeable, I'm going with (g). But I don't need to be in a hurry about it.
I do need to replace those 3 ivory switches, though!

Spent most of the weekend working on the shed, so not much in the garage. Moved the controllers near the lifts, while I await delivery of the new Wireless controllers for installation at the home / entry door.
Replaced the remaing ancient/cracked/yellowed/ivory switches and receptacles with fresh white ones.
Touched up and painted post garage door installation, and a few remaining defects.



Clearly, the opener photo was snapped before completion of the touch-ups.

I also replaced the white outlets above the workbench with black, and added metal faceplates, in preparation of Black OmniWall installation. OmniWall isn't in, and I didn't snap a pic.

Do NOT want to use the garage as a workshop. But, I was working on the shed/workshop, and Saturday was pretty rainy. So I created a little dust in my shiny new garage.

Getting in trouble...
OmniWall for above workbench and ProSlat for small partition wall ordered. With luck, I'll get to put some up the weekend of the 19th. Will need to split the slatwall. Was thinking 4'x4'. But 3'x4' and 5'x4' may fit the space better. Regardless, the trusty Diablo carbide-tipped 80 tooth laminate & aluminum blade on the DWE7491RS should be up to the task. To date, it's been amazing on RaceDeck, 3/4" laminated Acacia, 2x6 Redwood, 2x3 and 2x4 Fir, 1 1/8" sheathing, 1/2" ply in Hickory, Maple and Birch, 1/16" aluminum, and probably a couple other things. Cuts very straight, and only gives me grief when I'm using the wrong technique - or wrong guide. A little slow on the 1.125, but I can't fault it for that. That stuff is Beast - and I hope I never need to handle it again.

Trimmed out gaps in the RaceDeck floor, hung the wall cabinets, and installed the wife's garage storage cabinets. Didn't go quite as planned, so it's a good thing I haven't ordered mine yet. But now I know what I have to work with.

Kitchen appliances were also delivered. But the kitchen is FAR from ready for them.
(Garage fridge was supposed to be in the 16th. Still backordered. No update as yet.)

They're telling me late February on the garage fridge now.
No date on OmniWall, but hopefully a week or two.
So, probably back up Feb 2 to hang some ProSlat and wrap up the shed.

OmniWall is up. I could've squeezed in 3 16x20's with a lot of cutting, but went with 2 above the bench, next to the power tool kit. I'll find another location for the remaining 2 panels and all the accessories I wasn't yet able to hang. I'm sure some tool locations will change.

Garage Fridge came in!
I also installed the remaining 2 OmniWall panels, and placed some ProSlat below it.
But forgot to take any pics. So, next time. I did learn a little something installing the ProSlat. So now I need to redo the shed.

I forgot I never got a shot of the fridge next to the freezer in there. It's kind of full - patio doors, kitchen appliances, and kitchen and bathroom fixtures are all staged in the garage for installation over the next month or two. Once it's emptied out, I'll clean up in preparation for actual car storage in there. Will try to remember to snap some new pics of the completed space.

Pardon my dust. And the horrible lighting. (Ugh) It looks great in person; not sure what's up with my phone camera.
Reno STILL isn't complete.
They've painted the house and installed flooring. Kitchen appliances were promised March 7. Then May 23. Then June 13. Were finally installed Friday (June 21). BUT needed a flex duct, and couldn't find the gas regulator. (It was in the box, but not where they expected it.) So, still no cooking. Maybe Wednesday???

Regardless. The appliances are out of MY garage!

Deep dusting of workbench and toolbox; broom, blow, blast and scrub of floor tiles; and detail of car - to follow in the next couple weeks.
In the meantime, I was able to squeeze a car in there for the first time in MONTHS!

(Not much of a squeeze, really. SO nice to have space to park, and work, and move.)

FINALLY!
Reno team is wrapping up the punchlist today. Still a couple outliers, but I'm confident (now) they'll get handled.
We move in Friday.
Thought I should get the garage ready - because it'll be a while before I can do it again.

over near my Dad's old safe.
