Diy oil drain drum

I made this out of old Propane tanks and a office chair bottom. I have $15 invested.

Very nice project. To make the pipe telescope you need to find a pipe that will fit snugly into another pipe. Drill a hole and weld a nut onto the larger (bottom) pipe and put a set screw in it.

With luck a 3/4 pipe fit into a 1 1/4 pipe with about .010 to spare. It's not shown in the photo it does extend 3 ft.

How did you cut into that tank without any explosion?

What did you use for the strainer material?

Got it at the flea market It's a grease fryer splatter cover, used in the kitchen. Cost $1. Tanks are found discarded.

Had to make a valve removing tool to get the propane fill valve out. Had to strap the tank to a tree to unscrew the valve.

NOTE: propane is heavier than air. You MUST purge the tank upside down to make sure the tank is empty. Or BOOM may happen.

I cut the tank with a chop saw blade, to make the funnel part. A 3/4 pipe may fit into a 1 1/4 pipe (may have to sand a little) Weld a bolt as a stop

I put a drain valve on the bottom of the tank to put the used oil into a transportation jug. The pipe unscrews from the tank. I made a plug with a tire valve to pressurize the tank to get the oil out.

I welded a bolt on the bottom to secure the tank to the chair wheels.

I'm guessing you cut a SECOND tank for the funnel - correct?

Why do you need to pressurize the tank to get the oil out? You mean to get it out faster - correct?

E-TEC, Pressurizing the tank was necessary to remove the drained oil Up into a 5 gallon jug, and the drain is 1/4 pipe. Because the drain would be lower than the fill height of the 5 gallon container. I will use a discarded washing machine water fill hose for this.

Yes you are right on all "your whys" on why I done this build this way.
