As russlaferrera said, Plasti-Dip is your best bet. It's available in a spray can, or in a can that you dip the handles of a tool into, and it coats them with a rubber-like coating. It's great stuff :)

Is Plasti-Dip solvent resistant?

Years ago I dipped some of my tool handles into what I thought was Plasti-Dip-- been too long ago to exactly remember-- but anytime they get near carb cleaner or other solvents, they start to melt.

I've always longed for a tough and hard compound similar to what Channellock uses on its handles. Is today's Plasti-Dip what I'm looking for?

Is Plasti Dip® chemical resistant?
"Plasti Dip® protective coating has excellent resistance to acids, alkaline, and most common household chemicals. However, it is best to test this before going ahead with your application. Plasti Dip® does have limited resistance to petroleum based products."

There goes my plan to use it on my gas tank support straps.
