Anyone have plans or thoughts on some DIY wooden ramps? I have a set of Rhino ramps that worked perfectly for oil changes but since I installed the coilovers and front underspoiler I'm an inch or so too low.

Car weight is about 3400lbs.

I just throw down a piece of 2x8 under each wheel and drive over that so I can get the jack under my WRX. Was just some scrap I had laying around. Sure beats spending $70 on ramps.

Wont work with my car...I need 2.5 of lift before I can get the jack under the front lip. By the time I had enough wood they weighed a ton and were big and a pian to store.

2 2x's on top of each other will give you 3" of space, not that heavy, you don't have to use 8' ers, just 12 inches on the top piece and maybe 18" on the bottom and you should be all set.

In theory yes it would work, but the nose of my car is longer than most and I there are factory air deflectors in front of the wheels. Spacing of the 2x would have to be far apart and done just right. It makes the ramps very large and not easy to deal with. For my application the ramps I posted have the exact rate of height to length and they fit the bill exactly. I know...not cheap, but to me they are worth it!!

I eventually had to cut the 45° angles to about 30° because the car would push them.

Sheesh...amateurs

These are not my design (see: http://tim-yvonne.com/mikemercury/ramp.htm), but I built and use them regularly. They are heavy and bulky, so you need someplace to store them...not good for limited space shops. I beefed them up a bit from the original plans by adding additional blocking and metal strapping between the sides. In addition to screws, I also used construction adhesive between every piece. They are designed for low-slung cars and provide 9" clearance. To the naysayers: I use these regularly to lift my F350 Diesel Crew-Cab Dually without so much as a creak. My 455 T/A sat on these for two years:

My Dad has some like that but he carved them with a chainsaw out of a solid 10x10 beam. They aren't overly heavy so I'm not sure why you guys are bitching about 2 2x8s nailed together. It's only like 3-4ft of wood! Maybe 10lbs!

Or just buy an aluminum race floor jack. I use those on my EK with no issues and my car is about 4" off the ground, 3 1/4 at the jack points.

Floor jacks with jack stands aren't always the best for something quick like an oil change. The ramps are nice as you just drive on/drive off.

P.S.- Whatza "EK"?
