DIY Range Vent Hood

Not garage related, but still DIY related. Looking to build a 36"x32" stainless vent hood for my new stove (commercial unit out of a friends restaurant). From what I'm told 600 cfm is good enough flow for it, as i'm not going to be using it full bore with all 6 burners and the oven at the same time (i may, but i'll leave it until the summer with the windows open)

so, does anyone have any good suggestions on some plans or places where I can source some parts for the blower/filter assembly?

A commercial range is not usually listed for residential use, clearances to combustibles can be a issue.

take a really good look at already built units, its not just a exhaust fan that you have to set up, but you have to design the grease traps, that will take some thinking...

Second on Norcal's comment. Less insulation, set back requirements, etc. You might want to look for a commercial vent to go with this setup.

I tried making my own....

I was going to use a remote fan....got one from Grianger....about 450 CFM....real quiet....about $100

Then I started making the vent box....using stainless for the inside....wood cover on the outside.

Ended up tossing everything but the fan....

By the time you add up the parts and all the labor.....it's a LOT cheaper to buy.

The Habitat ReStore near me always has tons of used hoods. I would start there if you have one near you. Other than that, I would watch Craigslist.
