diy top coat gun, ANi or DeVILBISS

Hi,

I am currently in the market for a new top/clear coat gun to replace a failing mastercraft set (Canadian). Options are somewhat limited up here and I have more or less decided on the ANi F150 Plus S HPS.

However Napa has a DeVILBISS Startingline kit on for a tad bit more money. (I already have a primer gun that I am happy with, so that would just be bonus, or I'd just buy the bare DeVILBISS gun elsewhere for less.)

http://www.flyertown.ca/mobile/napa...39777472?&locale=en&type=1&postal_code=n3a3w9

My main concern with ANi is parts and support which should not be an issue with DeVILBISS around here.

Does anyone have experience with these guns, particularly the ANi? (Lots has already been said elsewhere about the StartingLine products.)

Where could one find support for ANi in Canada, or internationally online?

Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion, the "diy" was intended to indicate that this would not be for pro use.

Although, a diy top coat gun build would make for a more interesting thread.

I use a Tekna. Love it. Very user friendly for a navice. Would only give it up if I had a SATA or Sagola

The Ani and the StartingLine are ****. Even for DIY. You'd be just as well to get another Mastercraft.

Either get a Finishline locally or order a Sharpe FX3000 off ebay or amazon. Both are reasonably priced for a DIYer and not disposable junk.

Lol, please keep in mind that I am in Canada, not the US.

Sharpe FX3000 @ Amazon.ca = $369.62
Sharpe FX3000 @ Amazon.com = $109.18

I'll look into that one a bit more through.

Which ANi guns have you used and what issues did you have?

I own a Devilbiss FLG4 came with 3 tips 1.3,1.5,1.8, i use it for anything from primer to clear coat, and it works great.

It ran me about $180 with all the tips

Do you have an air compressor capable of handling a HVLP? Perhaps maybe a LVLP gun might be better?

have you checked to see what princessauto has to offer?

Compressor is capable of smaller jobs with an HVLP and some patience. Currently in a rental and stuck with 110V 15A. I'm running about the biggest pump I can within that limitation. So yes, LVLP would be better, but havn't found much around this tier other than the Astro Pneumatic EVO4014.

I am also starting to look around for a loaner/rental paint booth with proper air for some larger tasks.

Princess tends to carry an excessively redundant collection of cheap Sata copies, which is what I am trying to get away from (ie that mastercraft). However they also carry a few ANi guns.

I picked up the ANi RV/S because it was the only primer gun of any tier I could find locally at the time. I was fairly impressed with the results, which is the main reason I have been leaning towards the ANi F150 PLUS S.
