Ok, Garage Journal is emptying my wallet again. I want one of these. What's a good size for something you would use for general light duty fabrication - car stuff? Buy new or used?

Thanks,

Scott

I have two #5 junior punches. Just fine for DIY and most light commercial work. I paid $50-60 for a new plastic case set about 10 years ago.....and found a used metal box punch set for $3 at a garage sale a year ago.:lol_hitti

Two of them, both No.5 jr's. One at work (brown metal case as pictured in post #21) and at home (w/turquoise metal case, but also yellow handles). I wouldn't be without 'em. They make holes a very quick and painless experience.

I use mine to punch holes in pennies to make washers! Cheaper than buying them.

The address on the decal doesn't have even a two-digit postal code. The box is orange..sorta!

I have a #5 and a **. A couple of my favorite tools. I also have this guy:

A #34 lever punch. 8 ton capacity, 24" throat. Paid $200 at an auction for it with quite a bit of tooling. Since then, I've added a bunch of tooling including a pair of louver dies to do stuff like this:

Definitely one of my favorite pieces of equipment. The only drawback is the time it takes to swap dies around, but I haven't found a smoking deal on a Rotex yet.

I have a #5 I got on eBay for $25, love it. I also have a 218 *********** bench punch that I bought from a dude when I responded to an ad for a corner notcher. I need to build a stand for it and get more punch sizes. It's a beast.
