I was wondering if curved / offset extensions exist? Did anyone ever make anything similar to this:

I can't understand the purpose of it using a ratchet on it wouldn't work for taking out bolts maybe you can shed some light on it. Only purpose I could see is adding more extensions and using as a sort of breaker bar

Of course it would not work with a ratchet, but would be a nice idea to make different sizes of breaker bar if working in tight areas. Also it could be used with a beam style torque wrench.

I'm not seeing it work with a beam type torque wrench either because the rotational torque applied to the square drive end won't transfer to the male square drive as it is 90 degrees perpendicular to it. :dunno:

Well I have a really weird one which does not rely on rotational torque. I will try and upload a picture, it's difficult to explain.

Without female end, looks a lot like a Harley ironhead sporty head bolt tool

The Stahlwille tool is specifically designed for use with crowfoot wrenches! It enables you to access a fastener from directly above, but turn it from the side!

Britool used to make an adaptor that allowed you to do something similar, but if I recall correctly you had to insert an extension to make up the length of tool you needed!

These things are quite commonly used in the aviation industry, so there are probably other makers!

Do you have a picture of the Britool adaptor? Any idea what the model number was?

Snappy made them as far back as the first socket sets.

Nothing new about the idea so far. Amaze us?

I have a breaker bar similar to what you want, even has an extendable handle and came as part of a lug nut removal kit. Extends from 12" to 20" last I recall. Main issue I would see with that extension is that the female end would be prone to breaking, you're basically using it as a way to make a long breaker bar and that would put effectively put pressure on only one face of the square when the system is designed for a twisting motion that puts pressure on all four faces at once.

Sadly I don't own one, though I'd pick one up if I spotted one!

Part No. was an A58 in 3/8 drive and an E58 in half inch! The complete part consisted of an extension with a cross hole at the top (as all Britool extensions had in that era) but if memory serves, no female square drive. The other part was a female square drive, with a rod to fit the hole on the extension!

Britool used to sell sets of crowfoot wrenches with the extension, adaptor and a Tommy bar you could use instead! A lot of British aircraft maintenance firms used to have these sets, and many still do if they work on older aircraft, as Britool were one of the few firms to offer crowfoot wrenches in Whitworth / BS sizes!

Good spot!

Though that set is incomplete! It has the female square drive with the rod, but not the matching extension! You could probably use a regular Britool extension from that era, but that's not how they were supplied!
