Do I have a problem with these Snap On sockets?

One of the main reasons people buy and recommend Snap On is because of their warranty. You take away the warranty and you are left with an overpriced tool.

Huh? Hell no!

I bought Snap-On because their stuff doesn't break much at all. Warranty is a secondary concern, and I don't want to have to use it. If you need a good warranty, that means you expect stuff to break a lot. To heck with that.

You are not paying for the warranty when you buy their tools. You are paying for quality.

It's at the discretion of your driver. If the driver feels like doing you a solid he'll warranty your stuff. If you don't have a relationship with him, good luck trying to get anything from SO corporate. If you call them and tell them you're not the original purchaser, they will sell you repair parts at reasonable prices, but they won't warranty your stuff.

I have had a Williams ratchet that I told the CS rep up front that my friend had picked out of a scrap bin and both pawls were shattered; I was prepared to buy a repair kit if still available (it wasn't) but they offered to warranty it. They made me send it back to them, but I got a shiny new ratchet in the mail a short time later.

I have some SO bought at about half off with the help of an industrial sales rep. They are just tools. Your description makes it sound like a Sopranos operation. Your suggestion that the warranty is only valid if one is "solid" (WTF) with the truck guy is just obscene.

This makes no sense to me. Almost everyone I know buys for the truck service e/warranty so they don't have to run around and or mail **** in...

There are a lot of tools that don't break for a lot less money...I break just as much snap on as sk,old craftsman etc

Yes, snapon will warranty them.
Call or email and they'll take care of it. They don't know, nor give a **** where you bought them.

dint read the whole thread but have you considered that maybe the ebay seller has a shrink wrap machine . we had a local pawn shop with one and he would give $1 or 2 for pacageing from snap or mac then make up sets out of loos sockets then shrink wrap em and sell as complete

Do they do the job they were intended for? If not snap on will exchange them with out a doubt. If you want prettier ones,maybe they'll let you come down to the factory and hand select a more elegant set.

Thank you for your helpful responses. I guess I assumed the snap on warranty would be similar to craftsman or others - if a tool fails, they simply replace it. Does Snap On ask to see receipts? What if I was handed down tools from my father? No warranty if a wrench jaw breaks? I guess that's what I get for assuming, but it's not the end of the world and I'll happily have learned my lesson.

Yes, they do replace broken/defective tools but Snap-on's core market involves servicing the working technicians. Dealers are not obliged to service walk-ons, thats why there's 877-762-7664 and www.snapon.com, to service those who are not on the list of calls.
